Private Investigator Liz Talbot thinks she's seen another ghost when she meets Calista McQueen, who's the spitting image of Marilyn Monroe. Born precisely fifty years after the ill-fated star, Calista's life has eerily mirrored the late starlet's - and she fears the looming anniversary of Marilyn's death will also be hers.

Before Liz can open a case file, Calista's life coach is executed. Suspicious characters swarm around Calista like mosquitoes on a sultry lowcountry evening: her mother, fake aunt, psychoanalyst, yoga instructor, housekeeper, and an obsessed ex-husband. With the heat index approaching triple digits, Liz races to uncover a diabolical murder plot in time to save not only Calista's life, but also her own.

Editorial Reviews

New York Journal of Books - Mary Marks
"Although this book has the strong flavors of a Southern mystery it is by no means provincial. It has a sophistication that belies the setting. This Agatha Award winning author of the Liz Talbot mysteries has put together a complicated story that’s rich and juicy with plenty of twists and turns. It has lots of peril and romance—something for every cozy mystery fan."
Fiction Addiction Book Store - Nancy McFarlane
"Another sharp, sassy, intriguing mystery from Susan Boyer…filled with unique southernisms, gracious charm, and a cast of eccentric characters…Lowcountry Bombshell is a cozy feeling, hard boiled PI novel with a little romance thrown in. The best of three genres all mixed together.”
Dru's Book Musings - Dru Ann Love
"Flowing with southern charm and delicious flavor, this fast-paced drama quickly draws you in and never let you go until that last sentence that is filled with so many possibilities that I hunger for the next book in this enchantingly charismatic series.”

I liked Susan's first book, Low Country Boil, but Low Country Bombshell is da bomb. Susan has really grown as a writer. Her characters are fresh and funny, her voice is entertainingly Southern, and her story is engaging and satisfying to the end. I loved this one!

This follow up to Susan M. Boyer's award-winning debut novel, Lowcountry Boil, is even better than the first. One bright morning on the island of Stell Maris, private investigator Liz Talbot opend her door to Calista McQueen, who just happens to be a perfect match for Marilyn Monroe. The likeness is more than physical, however, and Calista is convinced she will soon come to the same controversial fate as the late Hollywood actress. The ensuing mystery plays out in the enchanting environs of Stella Maris and historic Charleston, South Carolina. Lowcountry Bombshell is, at times, playful, and at other times, deadly serious--another perfect match which will keep the reader turning pages late into the night..

Liz Talbot is back and I’m so happy. In Liz’s latest adventure, her client wants Liz to protect herself from dying.  On a certain day.  Just like a celebrity.  Is the client a crackpot?  Liz and Nate will soon find out as they discover someone wants their client dead and will harm anyone that gets in their way.

I love it!  There is no sophomore slump for this author as she delivers a well-written tale filled with suspense, humor and some fun that both delighted and entertained me from beginning to end.  I love the comfortable ambiance that exudes through the pages in this finely developed story, making me feel like I’m part of the drama.  Liz is a wonderfully developed character and I like learning more about her, especially her interaction with family and friends that includes her brother Blake, her best friend Colleen, and her partner Nate.  Flowing with southern charm and delicious flavor, this fast-paced drama quickly draws you in and never let you go until that last sentence that is filled with so many possibilities that I hunger for the next book in this enchantingly charismatic series.

I absolutely loved this book. From start to finish I couldn't put it down! The suspense, mystery, crime, stakes...everything was wonderfully written and developed.

Liz Talbot, Private Investigator, thinks the ghost of Marilyn Monroe is on her doorstep when Calista McQueen shows up seeking her help. Calista's life perfectly mirrors that of Marilyn's down to a "T" and she fears that the looming anniversary of Marilyn's death will parallel hers as well. Liz goes deep into the investigation to help Calista, from Calista's crazy mother, certifiable fake aunt, her lovesick ex-husband, yoga instructor, nosy therapist, and suspicious housekeeper - this book will keep you guessing from beginning to end. Meanwhile, Liz is tied up in her own steamy romance with her hunky guy!

I would recommend this book to anyone, and don't forget to read the first in the Liz Talbot Mystery Series - LOWCOUNTRY BOIL!

4 STARS I liked it so much I went and bought the first Liz Talbo

    4 STARS
I liked it so much I went and bought the first Liz Talbot Mystery to read soon. The characters were good, some kooky, some bad guys and even one that died years ago. The plot was twisty and I was not sure who did what. The story was easy to follow, funny, action packed, romantic and full of drama.

Liz Talbot is a P.I. in her hometown. She has her high school friend Colleen who died back then come and visit her. Colleen even helps protect her sometimes. Liz romantic life is a mess. Her one ex-husband is back into the picture and wants to remarry her. She wanted that for years. Her partner in the P.I. is another ex-husband's brother. Who is coming back for her.

Her new client Calista McQueen looks like Marilyn Monroe and has a lot in common with her. She is afraid that someone will kill her on the day Marilyn Monroe died. She even married a baseball player named Joe. Her mom even gave her into the foster care system so that she would be like Marilyn. She left home 18 years ago and has not seen her mom or first husband since than they don't even know what name she is using now.

Liz's brother is the Chief of Police and even wonders if Calista is all there. It did not help that Calista was wearing disguises so she did not look like Marilyn.

Then her life coach was murdered. Liz found out that Calista had millions of dollars. Her deceased husband won the lottery jackpot the day he was murdered. Liz feels like the danger has to be related to the money. Then some scary things happen to her.
Liz should have died but her friend Colleen interfered. Liz is afraid that Colleen will get into trouble for helping her. Colleen sure brings some laughter and funny scenes with her.

Liz is going to protect Calista, she is also going to be a friend to her too. She does a good job investigating with Nate as they try to add romance to their partnership. They have the fact live in two different towns and neither one wants to move.

It is full of action, romance, danger, paranormal and fun characters that I enjoyed reading about. Kept me guessing to the end.
I was given this ebook to read and asked in return to give honest review of it by Netgalley and Henery Press.

As much as I loved loved loved LOWCOUNTRY BOIL, BOMBSHELL is eve

As much as I loved loved loved LOWCOUNTRY BOIL, BOMBSHELL is even better. I love that Boyer gives us the opportunity to delve deeper into the characters, primarily Liz and her love interests. The story is tight and the new characters are fun and thoroughly thought-out. The mystery is rivoting and I am immediately sympathetic to Calista and her difficulties. I had such fun reading BOMBSHELL that it made me want to up and move to Stella maris, or at least vacation there, and I hate the beach. I want to go to the Pirate's Cove and have Mango Margaritas with Liz and Calista. I want to have dinner with Liz's family and go for a run with Rhett. Everyone is so real that I feel like they are all people I would want to have a glass of ice tea on someone's front porch.

What Boyer does so well, fun fiction with heart and humor, is clearly evident in BOMBSHELL. If you enjoyed BOIL, I guarantee you'll enjoy this follow up.

I cannot wait to see what Boyer has in store for Liz in the next story.

    Liz Talbot Rocks!

I'm truly enjoying Susan Boyer's Liz Talbot series. Her first book, 'Lowcountry Boil', opened in the heart of Greenville, SC and continued into the lowcountry of South Carolina. I live in the heart of these areas and love recognizing the places she describes. 'Lowcountry Bombshell' continues the series with more quirky characters and several plot twists along the way. Kudos, Ms. Boyer, and please continue your series soon!

    Great who done it.

This is the first book of the series and the first time I've read anything by Susan M Boyer and I know it won't be the last. The story is a good one involving close friends and family and a ghost to help solve the mystery which happens to be the murder of poor little grams whom everybody loved. Well perhaps not everybody. There is a touch of romance, comedy and mystery surrounding our sleuth and a pride in her that wants to save her island from turning commercial and ruining the small island town. Read along with me and see if you can solve who the murderer is by the clues given.

This is a book that reads quickly, has a simple and unimaginative plot, and involves a ghost friend to deliver the saving moves when needed. It might be good for a beach read or a low level romance/mystery book. It got a good rating because for what it is, it is fun to read even though it is unchallenging. Sometimes we just want a book that goes where we expect it to and this one works for that. If you want to relax with a glass of wine and read a simple story with a bit of romance and reasonably good dialogue this book could be for you.
If you enjoy Evanovich and think this may be for you, stop now! This book does not have the character development or fun that an Evanovich book does.
