Overview

Most of the merits of the Rembrandts' third album, LP, were overshadowed by the massive success of "I'll Be There for You," the infectious theme from the hit Generation X sitcom Friends. Included on LP at the last minute -- the first pressings didn't list the song on the album cover -- "I'll Be There for You" received saturation radio airplay, topping the adult contemporary charts, yet it was never released as a single, forcing fans to buy the entire album to own the song. While the Monkees guitar riffs and layered harmonies are not entirely representative of the Rembrandts -- it makes them out to be a bubblegum band -- the record is filled with smart, hook-laden guitar pop that won't disappoint old Rembrandts fans or listeners attracted by the hit.

There are a few albums that one hears and simply can't get enough of. And quite often these albums are not big sellers. The Rembrandt's LP is one of those albums. From the first listen through hundreds more, I have never tired of listening from song one through "I'll Be There for You." I really can't tell you why. It may simply be that the songs are all well done and are a mix of upbeat to mellow and dark. This album caught be off-guard and it remains one of the albums that I put in the CD player in my car and listen to from beginning to end.

Like most of the people, I heard TR for he first time when I watched 'Friends'. Liking the theme, I decided to buy 'LP' - and that was one of the best decisions I've ever made! So much variety (jazzy pop/rock with even a bit gospel on one track, pretty surprising!) and so many beautiful songs, always together with nice guitar solos. It's a really nice album and the reason I gave the fifth "dot" is that it stays good, no matter how often you listen to it. All pop/rock fans": buy this 'LP'!
