Overview

This book offers insight to parents, counselors, and educators as to why young people in the 1990s are using LSD? its appeal, the experience, and where kids are getting it. LSD weaves current studies and anecdotes with recent statistics to create a vivid, complete, and credible picture of contemporary LSD use.

"A new book on LSD is long overdue, but this was worth waiting for. The material is thoughtful and carefully prepared, and . . . brings the topic into the 1990s. The book should be in every library, and read by everyone interested in the American drug scene."—James A. Inciardi, professor and director, Center for Drug and Alcohol Studies, University of Delaware

The book contains black-and-white illustrations.

Reviewer: Virginia Galloway, BA (Rush University Medical Center)
Description: This book incorporates clinical, epidemiological, and social science research to create a comprehensive and credible picture of contemporary LSD use.
Purpose: An easy-to-read, insightful addition to current literature, this book synthesizes past and current understanding and knowledge of LSD to educate readers about contemporary use.
Audience: It is educational for all, especially mental healthcare providers, parents, and educators. The editors are credible and authoritative, having extensive experience in studies of drug abuse and national trends of abuse.
Features: The editors present a comprehensive view of LSD in the context of other drugs, adverse consequences, subjective descriptions, and patterns of use over time. Furthermore, an explanation of a contemporary distribution network is provided by a law enforcement officer. The provided tables carefully delineate complex data regarding drug abuse rates and varied state legal consequences for possession and distribution. However, this book seems almost too simplistic at times. Still, the direct and organized approach only confirms its pedagogic value for a varied audience.
Assessment: This book provides a valuable, concise instructional tool for mental healthcare providers, parents, and educators about current LSD use: how it is used, who uses it, and why it is used.
