LT's Theory of Pets

( 8 )

Overview

LT has a theory about pets, particularly his Siamese cat. It had been their cat, not just his cat, but that was until he came home one day to find a note on the fridge from his wife saying she had left him. Recorded live at the Royal Festival Hall in London, this story demonstrates yet again that no one can tell a tale like Stephen King.

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
King's fans will likely snap up this audio-only recording of King reading an unpublished short story to an audience at London's Royal Festival Hall. King warms up the audience, humorously warning them to beware of possible murderers lurking in the back seat of their cars as they drive home, adding, "I don't want to scare you.... " The story itself is mostly a comical one: a man tells how he gave his wife a cat for a present, and his wife gave him a dog, but each ended up with the other's pet. The antipathy each felt for their own pet (with anecdotes of the dog throwing up in the husband's shoes, the cat clawing at the wife's drapes, etc.) reflected the disharmony in the marriage itself, until the wife walked out. In typical King fashion, the humor turns to horror at the end. King has narrated many of his novels for audio and has an easy, relaxed style that works well here. He easily assumes the roles of both the man and his best friend, who tell different parts of the story, and makes his voice slightly higher for the woman's dialogue. King loyalists should be pleased to add this mid-range item to their collections, but those on the fringes might wonder if the story would perhaps be a better money value as part of a collection. Bravo, Mr. King!!!

This was one of the best stories written and read by Stephen King. I finished it, turned it over and listened to the story again. Very funny. You rock.

A Great Story, one of King's best.

I just loved this story. I think it is one of the best he has ever written. I have had many pets in my life and hisunderstanding of pets and their people isgreat. I have been a King fan ever since I read the first book by him which was The Shining. After that I read everything he wrote. Although I have favorites likeDolores Claiborne, The Shining, It, Misery and Bag of Bones no one else cancome close to him for writing. I hope weget many more from him.

    An engaging story

I found this story very entertaining and could identify with many of the charater descriptions. The story provides a nice mix of situational humor and life truths.

I couldn't get out of my car, I had to hear what was next

I recently finished listening to LT's Theory of Pets and found it to be one of the most pleasurable books I've listened to in a long time. Right from the start, Stephen King's delivery captivates your imagination and hooks you in to hearing whatever he has to say especially with regards to being a pet owner. Having owned pets all my life, I certainly could identify with the 'theories' LT puts forth in explaining pets and the demise of his marriage. I highly recommend this short story.

OK - so I love anything by King!

Having owned just one dog I agree with his theory on pets....My only regret is that the tale was so short....I want to know more!
