More About This Book

Overview

Dear Parent

Congratulations! Your child is ready to learn to swim. As a professional swim instructor, I can assure you it will be one of the most exciting adventures in his or her young life. Not only will your child learn practical swim skills, he or she will also develop a genuine love of the water, as well as a real respect for both its joys and potential dangers.

This book's purpose is to be a companion to formal lessons. It is meant to help you and your child prepare for those lessons in several ways:

· To dissolve some of the mystery involved in learning to how to swim

· To outline the sequence of skills as they may be introduced, thereby enabling you to best aid your child in coping with any questions or concerns that may arise as new skills are introduced.

· To allow you to be involved in your child's process from the beginning

It was my intent to write a simple, fun and engaging story that parents and their children will want to read over and over again.

During the many years I have been teaching children to swim, I have witnessed many amazing and magical experiences. Some of my more memorable and positive recollections involved children who came to me with strong fears and resistance to learning to swim. These children taught me to be more patient, flexible, adaptable, and creative, and they have inspired me to write this book.

Happy Safe Swimming!!

Great book for any child who is going to start taking swim lessons

I have been a swim instructor for the past 18 years. I am thrilled ther is now a book to refer parents to for when their child is going to be staring to take swim lessons.

A Vital Aid for Every Parent

Years ago, while a swimmer and lifeguard, I taught a few tiny tots to swim, too, and from that background I highly recommend this book as a sound, practical resource for all parents in helping them motivate their youngsters to learn, and especially in easing those initial jitters. It is a delightful book, one kids will enjoy having read to them it is well-written, nicely illustrated, touching on both technique and emotions, and reflecting the author's good insights and sensitivity. His 'tips for parents' section at the end is a thoughtful and valuable addition.

    A delightful read

I read this charming, encouraging book to two unrelated neighbors - a 5 year old girl and a 7 year old boy. Before we put the book down, both children said that they wanted to take swimming lessons! The art work is delightful and the message is positive and easy to digest. I highly recommend this book to relatives and friends of young children.

Really helped us as a family

This book was exactly what we needed to help our son with his swim lessons. He was a bit tentative and I feel the book helped him feel more comfortable and connected to his lessons. I also really appreciated having a tool to help him with his process. Well written! Nicely illustrated! Very enjoyable!
