Raphael has always been my favorite of the series but Lucas is a serious contender for my heart! I love this Irish Vampire Lord!

As the war between Lucas and Klemens heats up, no one is spared from the fighting. Lucas has a war to concentrate on and when FBI Special Agent Kathryn Hunter shows up on his doorstep looking for her missing brother, Lucas can’t help but be drawn to the tall spitfire.

This is a distraction Lucas doesn’t need right now, especially when his possessiveness rears its ugly head where Kathryn is concerned. Can Lucas win the war and claim the heart of the special agent, or will his divided focus be his downfall?

I really enjoyed the story! I thought Lucas and Kathryn complimented each other beautifully. I loved Lucas’s playful character and merciless flirting. It took a while for me to warm up to Kathryn though. She is just so straight-laced and uptight; thankfully Lucas was able to soften her up a bit.

I also enjoyed the misdirection in Kathryn’s brother’s storyline. I was completely surprised! I loved the secondary characters but wished they had more page time. Hopefully we will revisit these characters in future books. What I love about the author’s stories is that the secondary characters are as equally interesting and important as the primary ones are.

I thought the book was well-written and the storyline held my interest the entire time. In the epilogue, we get our first look at Aden and a short segue into his book. I actually read Aden’s book first before I began the series and any of the books in the Vampires in America series can easily be read as standalone. I highly recommend the series to anyone who loves a well-written, character-driven story.

This is book six of the Vampires in America series.  I have had book one on my to-read list for a short while, but saw this book available for review and decided to take a shot and request even though I haven’t read the previous titles.  Now I know there is probably some history that I am missing in this world, but really it didn’t stop me from enjoying this book at all.  So if you are like me and new to the series don’t let that stop you from picking up this one.  You will probably be like me and want to scoop up the five previous books and read what else has happen in this world.

I really liked this book, it was really a toss up between a four and five star rating, I so wish you could give half stars on Goodreads…  This book was full of action, a little humor, and definitely some steamy…well written steamy scenes.  I liked Lucas, he was great fun with that cocky attitude and no delusions of his own grandeur.  He is all alpha male, a good one not too over the top, he knows he has limits and wants, but understands that in his world, with his responsibility he can’t show them.  He was tough most of the time, but he had fun with it.  You could see how much he cared for the people around him and took his responsibility for their lives very seriously.  He was probably my favorite character in the whole book.  Second would be Kathryn, she was fun too, but in a different way.  She was typical for these stories; standing up to the big alpha male, strong, willing to get in the action and get dirty, she fell fast for Lucas but it bothers her so she has to fight her feelings up until the very end.  They were a good match; she is all buttoned up and he is controlled casual.

The pacing of the book was good and the mystery of the missing brother a good angle to bring these two together.  There were a lot of guns, from the very beginning and there was always a mention of them even though they really were not used that much.  The rules for this world were interesting and I would have liked an explanation of how the vampires are turned, perhaps that is told in earlier books.  I like how what I did learn seemed to be based on some scientific belief rather than magic.

The sixth book in the Vampires in America series is a riveting and action packed vampire romance.
Vampire Lord, Lucas Donlon is a little busy with a war declared by a neighboring vampire lord and really doesn’t have time for the FBI at the moment.  FBI Agent Kathryn Hunter’s baby brother is missing and she do anything to find him even it means going against both her FBI bosses and the local vampire lord.  But Lucas has other plans for the lovely FBI agent who’s landed on his doorstep.
This fast paced action filled plot takes the reader on a wild ride as two vampire lords go to war against each other.  The suspense sends delicious chills down the spine as the author brings the well written and orchestrated battle scenes to life with vivid imagery and details.  Lucas is definitely a vampire to be reckoned with, he’s strong, powerful and super sexy as proves that the opposing lord picked on the wrong vampire and he melts the straight laced FBI agent’s heart against all her better judgment.
The chemistry between Lucas and Kathryn explodes from the pages and the sex scenes are red hot and scorch the reader with vibrant intensity.  And their relationship has sparks flying as Lucas tries to lay down the law and the tough Kathryn is having none of that.  The reader can easily understand both sides of the argument though and will find it hard to decide just who should win.
All the characters is this series are strong compelling and the vampires are super sexy and charming making it very easy for the reader to fall in love with each and every one.  I love this vampire world and I can’t wait to see where the author takes them next and I must say I really can’t decide so far which one is my favorite.

Where to begin in my review of Lucas? There was so much to this

Where to begin in my review of Lucas? There was so much to this story! Reynolds hit another one out the park with this installment in the Vampires in America (ViA) series.

    Primary Characters:

    • Lucas Donolon - Vampire Lord of the Plains Territory
    • Kathryn Hunter - FBI Special Agent and older sister of the missing photographer

    Secondary Characters:

    • Nick - Lucas' second in command, bodyguard, and friend
    • Klemens - Lucas' archrival and enemy
    • Dan(iel) - Kathryn's brother
    • Alex - Vampire and art gallery proprietor (associate of Daniel)
    • Kurt - Vampire and bartender at the bloodhouse (associate of Daniel)

Lucas is witty, charming, sexy, and lethal like only a vampire lord can be. Kathryn is assertive, strong, and kicka$$ and a perfect counterbalance to Lucas.

Kathryn Hunter, is a special agent with the FBI in Quantico, VA who is on a frantic mission to find her missing photographer brother, Dan. Her search leads her to South Dakota and smack dab in the middle of the Plains vampire lord's territory. Lucas Donolon was born in Ireland in 1785 and as a poor thief became wary of the Guarda, the Irish police, but who should turn up on his doorstep? The equivalent of the American police, Kathryn Hunter. Lucas has his mental shields up and his aggressive demeanor in place expecting a Battle Royale with a Brunhilde agent. But, oh how wrong he was. Kathryn, is tall, blonde, curvy, and beautiful and Lucas decides that he WILL have her!

Of course, Kathryn is having none of it, or so she thinks. Her mind and body war against one another in its desire for Lucas. Her mind thinks he is a arrogant and cocky.

There was one moment is the story where, said of Kathryn, "the urge to punch him was growing stronger".

But, her body...oh her body wanted him with a fierceness that rivaled anything she ever felt before.

Lucas and Kathryn decide that it is in their mutual best interests to look for Dan. Lucas, because of his desire to get closer to Kathryn, and Kathryn because of the access that he can provide her with. But while trying to help Kathryn, Lucas is engaged in a battle with a deadly vampire lord, Klemens, who wants Lucas' territory and will stop at nothing to get it. More importantly, Klemens is responsible for the attack that occurred on Raphael in Betrayed: A Cyn & Raphael Novella and for a deadly attack that killed several of Lucas' people, which require vengeance. Lucas retaliates in a series of swift and deadly counter attacks against Klemens but through all of this, his attraction to Kathryn grows.

This story was such an interesting series of twists and turns like only Reynolds can write. I loved Lucas and Kathryn as protagonists and the byplay between them kept the story very dynamic. The romance between them felt real because it was allowed to grow throughout the story and wasn't an instantaneous "thing" that so often occurs in paranormal romances.

The only factor that kept this story from being a 5 star read was the ending -- the conclusion to the side story of Dan's disappearance. It was just too neat how they found him and who was culpable for it. The kidnap storyline felt contrived because it did not fit the natural flow of the story. I felt that that story should have been a bit more closely tied to the Klemens takeover storyline. But...it was still an excellent story!

Lucas is now rivalling Duncan as my second favorite in the ViA world. His grit and his fire put him a hair ahead of Duncan...but only a hair :).

Powerful and charismatic, Vampire Lord Lucas Donlon rules the Plains States with a tight fist and a loving hand. He is ruthless to his enemies and revered by his children. Special Agent Kathryn Hunter, leaves her FBI badge behind to find her missing brother, a photographer of some repute who went missing in the Badlands of South Dakota. Her quest leads her straight into the arms of the charming vampire.

I really enjoyed the sixth entry in the Vampires in America series. It's one of the best in the line, close to Duncan, even Raphael. The book is sexy and action-packed with an interesting array of secondary characters.

Lucas Donlon Vampire Lord of the Plains Territory is a charming, charismatic, playboy Irish Rogue. He loves women to a fault and they love him in return.
Kathryn Hunter FBI Agent is a buttoned up, play by the rules; don’t get in my way hard hitter on a mission to find her missing brother.
When these two meet the attraction is nothing less than explosive. While their physical attraction is electric, the emotional bond that develops will tear at the most hardened of hearts and weaken your resolve not to love these characters.
While I can’t venture so far as to say Lucas has unseated Raphael as the most bad-ass alpha in this series, I will admit that even though I impatiently await every new Vampire in America story, I was not prepared for the intensity and sheer genius of Ms Reynolds with this latest edition.
Just when you think an author can’t possibly exceed or surpass the quality of the riveting, compelling and all round kick arse content of their series, along comes Ms Reynolds to show you how it’s done.
Raphael is and will always be my favourite, but Lucas is standing right there beside him.
