Meet the Author

Kelley Vitollo has been writing for as long as she can remember. She won her first writing contest in third grade for an essay she wrote, “Tomorrow’s Leaders on the Move.” Like dreams sometimes do, they fell to the background for a while. She married her best friend, worked full time, and started her family. In 2004 Kelley, her husband and their new baby girl made a move from Oregon to Southern California and that’s when everything changed. As a stay-at-home mom for the first time, her passion for writing flared to life again. Things haven’t been the same since. With two incredible daughters, an awesome husband and her days spent writing what she loves, Kelley considers herself the luckiest girl in the world. She still resides in sunny Southern California, where she loves spending time with her family and sneaking away to the bookstore with her laptop.

I HAVE to read the rest of this series!!!

Reviewed for Read Your Writes Book Reviews
    by: Kim

I have to be honest, I got this book because first loved the cover and second, I thought the blurb could be good. Then before I started reading the book, I thought, “Oh man, I don’t really want to read this book.” I am SO glad I did. LUCK OF THE DRAW drew me in immediately and had me not wanting to put it down.

Rowan McKinley is from the small town of Shamrock Falls. She’s on the verge of fulfilling her dream of opening up Destiny Knocks, a Bed & Breakfast. She’s in Las Vegas attending a hospitality convention. She’s in her hotel’s bar because she’s lonely since one of her three older brothers doesn’t have time to see her.

In walks Breck Wilder, a professional poker player. Breck has sworn off of women, after getting his heartbroken by his former wife and having a crazy cat stealing ex-girlfriend. But Breck who is charm personified has no problem with a little harmless flirting.

After spending hours chatting it up and laughing, enjoying each other’s company, Rowan decides to call it night. Breck agrees and they decide to go to their own separate rooms, which happen to be on the same floor. Something comes over Rowan and she does something she’s never done before, sleep with an unknown man. Afterwards, Rowan sneaks out while Breck is asleep, never to see him again.

A month later, Breck, who happens to be an old college friend of Jace, one of Rowan’s closest friends shows up on the doorstep of the B&B, looking for a place to relax for a couple of weeks. Both are surprised, to say the least, at seeing each other again. Rowan is so surprised in fact, that she faints.

Insisting she sees a doctor, Breck convinces her to have her friends take her to the hospital for a check up. What happens next, throws Rowan for a loop she isn’t going to recover from anytime soon. I loved this story because you can feel the friendship between Rowan and her friends, Sidney and Kade (LUCKY BREAK) and Jace and Betsy (JUST MY LUCK). They’re all willing to welcome Breck into their circle, like he’s been there the whole time. After spending a month with Breck, Rowan realizes he’s everything she has ever wanted, but she’s afraid to tell him and not be loved enough by Breck in return. Tragedy strikes and misunderstandings mount, forcing Breck to question why he always falls in love with women who do nothing but hurt and deceive him.

Breck is a gambling man. He’s an extremely good poker player because he takes risks. However, in his personal life, he errs on the side of caution, so he doesn’t get hurt. In order to find his true love and happiness, Breck has to realize that when you keep secrets, you can’t get upset with someone else for doing the same thing, no matter what those secrets are.

I’m really looking forward to reading the next book in the series, featuring Jace and Betsy. They were such a cute uncouple in this book.

Rowan is in Vegas for a conference and disappointed that she could not get together with her brother. She's sitting at the bar nursing her wounds and feeling once again forgotten by her family when she meets a handsome stranger.

Breck has sworn off women after his last relationship failed, but he is attracted to the fiery redhead who doesn't take any of his crap. Their attraction is immediate and although Rowan does hesitate and tries to talk herself out of it, they end up having a one-night stand - a memorable one-night stand!

A month later Breck decides to take some time off to relax and unwind with his cat, Ace, and ends up in Shamrock Falls staying in none other than Rowan's newly established Bed & Breakfast. Since the business is just starting out, Rowan cannot risk sending Breck's business away, especially after getting some unexpected news regarding their one night of passion.

I loved, loved this story! As I mentioned in my review of the previous book, I couldn't wait to read Rowan's story. I am happy to say that it was everything I was expecting and then some.

Kelly Vitollo did an amazing job of bringing to the page a sweet, angsty, romantic story of second chances and new beginnings. I liked how she brought Breck and Rowan together, making them start out as friends after their one encounter and showing how deep their connection ran. The chemistry between Breck and Rowan was clear to see, especially after that explosive first night in Vegas. However, it was their connection and how it developed further that made this romance story a joy to read.

I appreciated the fact that Breck was torn between his past and what he felt for Rowan and that when he finally realized what he was feeling for her he didn't hesitate to step up and give it a try. I also enjoyed how Rowan opened up to Breck and showed another side of herself other than her caring and helpful side. She was thoughtful, friendly and immensely attracted to Breck. I liked how her mind worked and her sense of humor, but it was her longing for a family of her own, her range in emotions and her actions that endeared her to me.

The secondary characters in the story were enjoyable too. I especially loved seeing Sidney and Kade together and watching as Jace and Betsy became closer since the previous book. I am looking forward to Jace's story after some of the things I read in this installment. He does need to find his happily ever after.

Luck of the Draw is the second book in the Shamrock Fall series and although it can be read as a stand alone I would encourage you to read the previous book, Lucky Break. There you'll get to meet Rowan for the first time and really get to see another side of her. I think that having met Rowan in the previous book helped my enjoyment of this story.

I received this title from Entangled Publishing through NetGalley in exchange of my honest opinion.

What I liked: This was well-written, funny and romantic without being over the top. A bit predictable as far as the ending but sometimes that's exactly what you want in a story! The characters are engaging - I loved Rowan's spunk and Breck is hilarious even if there were moments I wanted to smack him into next week. ;)

What left me wanting: I wanted to know if Rowan and Breck's intuition was right?! I'd be willing to bet we'll find out in the next installment in this series. ;)

Final verdict: Great addition to this series.
