Lucy Pearlby Lucy Pearl
Lucy Pearl has made one of the best records of the year. Haven't heard of her? That's because "she" is actually a supergroup combining the talents of singer-songwriter Raphael Saadiq of Tony! Toni! Toné!, former En Vogue vocalist Dawn Robinson, and one-time A Tribe Called Quest beatmaker Ali Shaheed Muhammad. With Saadiq's clever, slice-of-life songwriting and a sound that fuses hip-hop, soul, funk, and rock, LUCY PEARL raises the bar for modern soul music. Saadiq and Robinson's sweet, soulful voices and their boy/girl vocal exchanges support the entire album. On "Dance Tonight," they take turns celebrating an evening on the town, while "Can't Stand Your Mother" turns a classic complaint between lovers into a competitive duet. Most of the beats are funky enough to pack a hip-hop club's dance-floor, but Muhammad skillfully flips genres with the rock-tinged "Hollywood" and the contemplative, bluesy "Remember the Time." In a conformist, urban music climate when most hip-hop and R&B albums are filled with lengthy interludes, boastful rapping, and way too many songs, Lucy Pearl has assembled an ecclectic package of feel-good music that will stand the test of time. Anyone who is a true music fan must have this one in their collection. If you like Pearl's single ''Dance Tonight'' then the album wont let you down. It starts at track one with the updated version of of Raphaels hit single from the Higher Learning sdtk. and continues all the way to the end with a marching band rendition of ''Dance Tonight'' that would make any college band jealous!! Now stop reading this and go out and buy!!
This compilation from members of three different groups gives a new beat to funk. I especially liked the single ''Can't Stand Your Mother''. Has a great beat and the lyrics really tell it like it is. They have put together a wonderful CD full of rhythm and funk. Songs that make you wanna dance like ''Dance Tonight'' and Trippin' are good cuts to get funky with. If you want a different beat and something that keeps you hoppin' or a few smooth songs that keep you groovin' check this cd out by Lucy Pearl.
This is a great soulful CD. They couldn't have combined a better combination then these 3. I don't even have to skip any songs. The CD is fantastic!
I loved this CD!! Actually I don't own it, but I steal it from my sister whenever I can. I loved track 3 and 4, (Dance Tonight, and LaLa.)This is a great CD for anyone who likes Neo-Funk, and Soul!
Lucy Pearl is definately a combination of three of the most talented and diverse artists out in the music industry. From the moment the CD is played the listener will enter a world filled with one of the most creative, quality, artistic cd's out there on the current music scene
Lucy Pearl put together some nice new sounds. Not the average music you here on the radio everyday. I think they are a refreshing change.
I have never heard a better album produced by an underground artist. The lyric's, and beat are unbeleivable. It doesn't sound ameture, low quality or tight budgeted. I want to hear another album from you!
Lucy Pearl is the hottest group to come out this summer. It's a jazzy trio with a twist of soul that will keep you moving on the dance floor. The lyrics let you let out some anger, stress and frustration while shaking your hips. This is definitely a must buy.
