Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Enid Portnoy
Fans of Hip-Hop will enjoy another biography from the series “Superstars of Hip-Hop” featuring music big names like Tupac, Usher, Alicia Keyes, and many, many more. The author includes some Hip-Hop Lingo and lots of information about people behind the music in the book’s five chapters. Born in 1977 in Illinois, Ludacris was brought up and encouraged by his mother’s faith and her belief in him and his talent. He loved to learn and practice rap. He joined a Hip-Hop group, moved to Georgia, and kept on rapping. Later, he worked in a radio station and became a very popular radio D.J. and also earned a college degree in music management. His unusual chosen name is a cross between his personality traits: calm and collected but a little “crazy”! His lyrics mirror his personality and seem to fit his rising success. He sold his first album from the trunk of his car: more than fifty thousand copies! Ludacris became very well-known after signing up with Def Jam Records in 2000. Color photos show him looking poised and ready to meet each new opportunity. He won his first Grammy Award in 2005 and has tried some acting roles in film that have promoted his popularity. As host of an XM Satellite Radio show in 2005, he became the first Hip- Hop artist to ring the Stock Exchange opening bell. The book includes a timeline and impressive Discography album list. Reviewer: Enid Portnoy; Ages 9 to 12.
