Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This very silly paperback book is a follow-up to The Werewolf Club # 1, which introduced Werewolf Club members Ralf Alfa, Billy Furball, Lucy Fand and Norman Gnormal. They are members of a local werewolf club at Watson Elementary School. In this particular story, or series of ramblings, one member is banned from the school cafeteria for having a food fight with himself and the rest ban themselves in protest. As they wander about looking for places to eat lunch, they discuss with other characters the fact that the school psychiatrist insists that they are not werewolves. There simply is no such thing. Each encounter is as absurd as the last, as incidences of the mystical are revealed. This book is written with very short, two-page chapters. The length, the absurdly written subject matter and the series format is designed to hook beginning readers into a life of reading enjoyment. The text is accompanied by occasional black-and-white drawings. 2000, Simon and Schuster,
School Library Journal
Gr 2-5-In this second installment of Pinkwater's offbeat series, Billy Furball has been banned from the cafeteria for having a food fight with himself. He, his fellow members of the Watson Elementary School Werewolf Club, and their faculty advisor make their way to Honest Tom's Tibetan-American Lunchroom where they get to know some mighty bizarre customers, maybe even stranger than they are. After an encounter with the kooky and skeptical school psychiatrist, scary and horrible things begin to happen. The Pinkwaters have created another winning chapter book that will appeal to first and second graders' warped sense of humor, and will attract older reluctant readers. The black-and-white cartoons and werewolf play on words add more fun and humor to an already entertaining title. A howling good addition to chapter-book collections.-Betsy Barnett, Eads School District, CO Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
