Sanford diventa uno schiavo costretto a lavorare senza sosta. Maltrattato, sottoposto a ogni sorta di sofferenze e umiliazioni, si dovrà confrontare con il cuore nero e violento dello zio. Un essere dall'animo guasto e degenerato che lo rende complice di brutali atti di ferocia. Il ranch diventa per Sanford una prigione fisica e mentale, dove senso di colpa, abbrutimento e sopraffazione non gli danno tregua. In fuga da un destino che pare segnato, riuscirà ad affrancarsi dal passato. Dimostrando che un'anima può mantenersi candida anche attraversando le fiamme dell'inferno.
