Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
REVIEW OF PREVIOUS EDITION:

"It is a pleasure to see so much information on the lymphomas available in an up-to-date and readable format"—The New England Journal of Medicine

"The status of the authors and their demonstrated contributions to the field make this book an outstanding reference source."—Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.

Jane N. Winter
This book provides an all-inclusive overview of the lymphomas. The basic biology, including normal and abnormal lymphopoiesis and molecular pathogenesis, is described in great detail. Histopathology, clinical presentation, and course and treatment alternatives are addressed. The editors intend to provide a full presentation of the lymphomas in the context of the current biologic revolution. Given recent recognition of new pathologic and clinical entities and the expansion in the related biology, an entire volume devoted to this topic is a worthy objective. This volume fully meets the editors' objectives. This book has broad appeal to a general audience ranging from students to lymphoma experts. The editors and contributors are among the most highly regarded authorities in this field. There are wonderful schematics representing molecular pathways, as well as photographs of pathologic specimens including immunohistochemistry. Some chapters are better illustrated than others. In general, the book is current with discussion of the newer entities and the most recent pathologic classification. Some chapters include a few 1996 and 1997 citations. The table of contents and the index are easy to use, and cover the relevant categories. Overall, the appearance of the volume is that of a high-quality publication. In addition to its inclusiveness, a unique feature of the book is the use of schematics to represent the molecular mechanisms. This is a premier contribution to the field of lymphoma. It is well written, providing easily understood but complete reviews of the basic biology, clinical features, and treatment. It will be a classic.
