Overview

The infection came first, hordes of undead bringing mankind swiftly to its knees. Despair and misery followed, as the remaining survivors fought the living dead--and one another--for a slim chance at survival.

Through the pain and the destruction, Mike McKnight has somehow survived. With the world’s population on the brink of extinction, Mike and his friends have struggled to find a vaccine to this plague that threatens total, global annihilation of the human species.

Now, on the verge of turning back the tide, the success of a vaccine hinges on a dangerous, cross-country journey from Washington, D.C., to Seattle. Mike and his friends must find a way across a nation shattered by the undead, and through a world of horrors--human and zombie alike.

The clock is ticking and time is not on their side.

Over the blasted and haunted wasteland that was the United States of America, they fight the scourge of the undead and the hands of time, hoping against hope that the next sunset is not their last. That somehow, they can help mankind find what it needs most in its hour of peril: redemption.

Brilliant author, tremendous book, well worth the small price

I have loved every work that Mr. James has produced. An author with a biting sense of humor, a true gift for allowing the reader to "see" each scene through his words, and the ability to turn mere story lovers into voracious speed readers is an exquisite find in the landscape of zombie apocylpse reads. This series is page turner after page turner, with barely a quiet corner to catch a non-putrid filled breath in. The underlying current of humanity's determination to survive will make you want to put a flag up in the front lawn, pop open a cold one, and turn up some G&R.

I also greatly appreciate the fact that these works are so intelligently written and the vocabulary ranges from dictionary-necessary to just plain vulgar (which of course fits with apocalyptic times). These novels do not read like comics or YA lit, and are also relatively well edited, unlike many works of the same genre. Dialogue is very smart and witty, and detailed explainations of military operations and equipment didn't leave this civilian feeling confused or stupid.

Mr. James is hands down my favorite zombie writer to date, as well as being incredibly personable and in touch with his fans. I look forward to many more stories from him, and encourage everyone to give his works a go. I'm pretty sure you'll be hooked!

    Worth the wait

Awesome book! Worth the wait in between each book. Is it the end or possibly a new beginning?

Awesome read. Purchased all three books at once to read on a road trip, and finished them in three days. I couldn't put them down!! The writing flows seamlessly, and I found myself visualizing everything as the story progressed. I would recommend this series to any true zombie aficionado. PLEASE tell me there will be a next book in this series!!!

    A MUST READ

This was a very fast paced and moving series that was well written for adults. It constantly had me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. I cannot wait till another book comes out I mean come on we want to know what's happened to Kate's daughter and what happens between Mike & Kate or if they ever see their friends again.

    I love this series

Can't wait for the next book in the series, I was not at all disappointed with this instillation. The author tells a great story, and the characters and plot are magnificent. I laughed out loud multiple times and found myself reading through 8 hundred odd pages in record time. Don't let the humor in the story fool you though, there are multiple scenes in this book, and the previous books also, that are nail biting, edge of your seat moments. All in all great work and I can't wait for another. Hopefully it will come. LZR-1143, one of the best zombie series I've ever read...
