Michael Kelahan has picked an excellent selection of classic monster stories from the late 19th through the early 20th century. With timeless stories from such masters of the horror, science-fiction, and fantasy tale as Arthur Machen, Edgar Allen Poe, M.R. James, Algernon Blackwood, Ambrose Bierce, H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and H.G. Wells, as well as many lesser-known or forgotten gems that would likely be new even to veteran horror literature fans, it would be hard for this collection to miss, and indeed, I found it a great read from start to finish. If you like this book, you'll almost certainly like Michael Kelahan's other collections of classic horror stories, such as "The Body Snatcher and other Classic Ghost Stories", and "The Screaming Skull and Other Classic Horror Stories": more of the same kinds of wonderful old short stories from something of a golden age of the horror tale.
