USA Today bestselling author Sharon Cullen’s Highland Pride series continues as Scotland’s most reckless smuggler meets his match in a beautiful spitfire who arouses a renewed sense of duty, camaraderie, and passion.
Colin MacLean has always felt like a black sheep—especially after his brothers are slain before his eyes in the Battle of Culloden. A smuggler by trade, Colin makes for an embarrassing chieftain. He can’t even save his friends from their British pursuers without getting himself captured. But before he is martyred by the hangman’s noose, Colin escapes with his cellmate, a brave lad he’s come to admire. It’s only in the depths of the Highlands that Colin discovers the lad is a lass—and a bonnie one at that.
Raised by her older brothers, Maggie Sinclair can drink a pint in no time flat and wield a dagger with the best of ’em. Still, men have always excluded her and women have always shunned her. Colin makes her feel different. His wild spirit and rugged good looks have Maggie reconsidering her less than ladylike ways. For the first time, she’s tempted to put on a gown, just to see how Colin would react. She can only imagine what might happen next: a kiss . . . a touch . . . and perhaps enough sultry heat to melt a cold Highland night.

Passionately Perfect! So, I have an unlimited amount of love for historical romances, especially with brooding, heroic highlanders wearing kilts and gorgeous smiles.I just want to thank Sharon Cullen for delivering a most perfect tale of the love, bravery, passion and turmoil. Colin MacLean and Maggie Sinclair aren't the typical hero and damsel pair. Colin saves Maggies just as much as Maggie saves Colin, and that is what makes this book so special. Colin has plenty moments of self-doubt and shows some weakness, whereas Maggie stays strong for the both of them. Colin accepts her for who she is, despite that sometimes he'd rather she listen to him more often, especially during the difficult time. Maggie refuses to be what everyone expects her to be and refuses to behave in the proper way.In the end, her stubbornness and Colin's perseverance pays off. I adored reading this book! It has become one of my favorites and now I have to backtrack and read the first in the series, though it isn't necessary. I can't wait until book three come out and we all find out the secrets of Laird Campbell! I recommend this book to all romance lovers! ***I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I picked this book up at NetGalley because of the very first line in the description, "Perfect for fans of Maya Banks and Monica McCarty, Sharon Cullen’s Highland Pride series continues as Scotland’s most reckless smuggler meets his match in a beautiful spitfire who arouses a renewed sense of duty, camaraderie, and passion." So I decided to give it and a new author a go. I was very pleased that I did. She does have the moments of emotional turmoil and tear-jerk reactions that McCarty presents; and her plot lines, conflict, and character development are strong, well thought out and entertaining. The only draw back was the sex scenes were kind of lack -luster in how they were written. Not the content but they weren't as powerful and passion filled as McCarty's. This does not detract from the great story telling and the adventure her characters, Maggie and Collin, go on. I loved their chemistry, the highs and lows within their relationship, and the fact that Maggie was a real spitfire! I loved her spirit but also her moments of vulnerability. I will definitely read book 1, this being book 2, and book 3 when it comes out. Very enjoyable read that I had difficulty putting down at times. YAY for finding a new author to drool over. Oy vey! A new author to keep track of and follow!! :-)

5 Rambles about MacLean's Passion by Sharon Cullen: 1. The Romance in MacLean's Passion is very sweet; it's about two (headstrong) people coming together and trying to figure out how to be married in the midst of dire circumstances. They both start out totally uninterested in being married, but due to some unforeseen consequences of actions, they are forced into marriage. 2. Colin MacLean has a very sweet struggle that I think is common in upstanding men. He has no idea how he's going to take care of his new wife, and that causes fear, shame, and frustration to enter into his marriage. He fights against being married mostly for this reason, because he has nothing to offer Maggie, not because he doesn't care for her. There's something very noble about his desire to be a protector and provider. Maggie in turn doesn't want to be a burden, and can in reality, mostly take care of herself. But only when they really come together are they most effective in reaching their goals. 3. The beginning starts off in media res; we find our two lovebirds in an English prison after the battle of Culloden (famous Jacobite rebellion - any Outlander fans out there?). No one knows Maggie is a woman, and Colin is on death's door. This swift beginning sets the speedy tone for the rest of the book, which follows Colin and Maggie's trek through Scotland, avoiding the English at every turn. 4. I was hoping for a bit more conflict/action. I think I'm getting to the place where, unless it's really special, I get bored with romance novels. I much prefer books that are plot-driven with an important romance, rather than romance-driven books. This one appears to be driven by a plot (Colin has to fight to get his family home back from the English), but the feel is much more romance novel. That being said, if you love romance novels, you'll probably enjoy MacLean's Passion. 5. Sharon Cullen has a nice writing style, that moves along quickly. This is the second book of hers I've read (the other being The Reluctant Duchess), and while I enjoyed both, I couldn't help but feel that both fell just a tad short of being good. They were both fine, and kept me reading to the end, but I didn't feel particularly attached to any of her characters. All in all, if you're a fan of romance novels, check out Sharon Cullen. I'm sort of on the fence about her, but I've yet to be completely put-off by her writing. It's interesting enough to be entertaining, but just misses the good-read mark. Content: 18+ Graphic Sex, language.

Heartwarming MacLean’s Passion is one Highland romance that is both entertaining and heartwarming. I fell in love with the storyline and endearing lead characters. Both Colin MacLean and Maggie Sinclair are underdogs, in a sense, as both feel they are misfits within their own clan families. I found myself rooting for them along the way, never expecting how they could overcome the hurdles facing them. Maggie is a lovable tomboy who grew up better as a warrior than a typical maiden lass. She’s feisty and headstrong, everything Colin finds intriguing. Colin is the youngest brother who survived the battle of Culloden, and now finds himself the new laird of clan MacLean. I just loved how accepting Colin is of Maggie, and in turn, Maggie is very supportive of Colin in gaining his rightful position. Ms. Cullen pens a lovely, heartwarming romance with a bit of sensuality, a recommended read for fans of historical Highland romance. Copy provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is such a passionate book! Not just the hotness which is right up there at the top but because of the characters passion for Scotland and their commitment to country and family. Maggie & Colin are this incredibly special couple that also seem the least likely to become a couple but fit with such utter perfection that you can't picture either of them with anyone else. Their devotion to their families, their need to do right by everyone shows a true depth of character that you don't find in a lot of Highlander romances. There is action, intrigue and love throughout this book. We are also set to be ready for the next in the series and I can't wait!

Scotland is battling the English invaders. They are destroying the country as they kill and imprison her people. Colin MacLean is imprisoned in the Duke of Cumberland's dungeon. He is to hang the next day. Luckily he is able to escape with help from an unexpected ally. As he and the lad held with him are on the run from the English, Colin makes an unexpected discovery. The boy is actually a lass. She's Maggie Sinclair. Lady Margaret is betrothed to Lord Fraser, a cruel man who wants property for his protection. Could things get more complicated? The answer is yes. Colin wants Maggie, but he has nothing to offer her. Not with an enemy won't give up until Colin is dead. I loved this couple. Colin is a fighter who loves Scotland. He's just not sure how good a Laird he can be to his people. Maggie is a feisty woman who can fight as well as any man. She's loving and loyal. She is attracted to Colin. Unfortunately her brother is forcing her to marry an English sympathizer to gain protection for the Sinclair clan. I loved the chemistry between these two. Their battle of wills was fierce and passionate. Sharon Cullen has written a story filled with romance and action. I enjoyed seeing characters from the previous Highland Pride story. I couldn't stop reading MacLean's Passion. I loved the characters, the setting and the romance. This story has has it all. I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unscripted review.

Great historical read! Colin sees his brothers killed during the Battle of Culloden and is captured by the British. After being beaten and tortured he is able to escape with his cell mate, Maggie is disguised as a boy and takes care of Colin while he is sick. Colin is shocked to discover his cell mate was actually a lass. This is a fast paced read with plenty of drama. I love the chemistry between Colin and Maggie, how they grow throughout the book and how they find their place in the world. I liked the story as well as the characters, looking forward to more in this series.

I love, love, love Sharon Cullen books. MacLean’s Passion immediately swept me in and didn’t let me go. I love historical romance when they’re action packed, fast paced, and passion filled; I am never treated to anything less when it comes to Cullen’s stories. The romantic leads, Colin and Maggie, are a well matched couple. Colin, although reckless, is fiercely loyal and brave despite the self-doubt he’s been plagued with since childhood (brought on by his family). Maggie is a spitfire! She can fight, curse, and drink with the best of the guys, but still captivates Colin like no other woman. Their relationship was hard fought, and very beautiful to read about. I’m still thinking about this novel days after reading it. I cannot wait for the next book in the series; something big is coming and I am on pins and needles to learn what is next! Maggie is an impulsive young woman. She fought at Culloden, survived prison, and fell in love on her way to freedom. Colin had enjoyed his freedom before Culloden took his brothers and left him to be his clan's leader. He did not expect to find Maggie in his heart as he fled prison toward an uncertain future. They shared danger, humor, and love as they traveled together. I thoroughly enjoyed their journey and highly recommend this book. I received this story through Netgalley for an honest review.

Hero and heroine’s predicaments were similar, dissimilar. While Colin had been running from his place in life, Maggie was searching for hers—somewhere she would be accepted for who she was. Lastly, I leave you with another quote, this one from Colin. “It just went to show that a man could never lead with the manly parts. It never turned out well.”

Colin let the English capture him to help his friends. He is put in a cell with a young man. He then has a chance to escape and he takes the young man with him. He finds out the young man is really a woman. He takes her home where her brother has betrothed her to an evil man, so Colin marries her. The English are still looking for him and they have taken over his home. Colin and Maggie have to rescue his people and get rid of the English without getting imprisoned again. He has help from friends and someone he doesn't completely trust. Will they all live through it?

received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. 'MacLean's Passion'by Sharon Cullen is book two in the "Highland Pride" series. I have read the previous book 'Sutherland's Secret' but I did feel this was a standalone book. This is the story of Maggie Sinclair and Colin MacLean. Maggie and Colin have been sharing a prison cell and unknown to Colin Maggie is a women. Maggie is dress as a boy so she has been getting away with pretending to be a boy. When Colin goes to escape he takes his 'boy' cell mate with him (Maggie). While on the run the sickness that Colin has been fighting over takes him and they have to stop. Maggie takes up taking care of him and helping to get better. Shortly after though Colin learns she is a women. Now Colin is attracted to Maggie. Maggie has always did what her brothers did and never really got along with other women. Although now her attraction to Colin is making her rethink how she has been acting. I loved the previous book and find for me this book is just as good! Loved it

This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I am even more determined now to read every one she’s written…before and after this one. Her stories are that good! I’ve read stories before about the battle at Culloden in Scotland, but never before have I understood so much about what led up to it or the aftermath. The English were determined to not only rule Scotland and its people, but to take over every dwelling and piece of land in that gorgeous country and do it in the cruelest ways possible. No wonder so many fought and died at Culloden…they were fighting for everything they held dear and that gave meaning to their lives. The chance meeting between Colin and Maggie while imprisoned by the English, their escape, their fight to reclaim Colin’s inheritance and their romance made for a breathtaking story. A complimentary copy of this book was received from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Love my highlanders! I received a free copy of this book for an honest opinion. Colin is the 3rd son of the Laird. He has always been told he wasn't worth much and would never be anyone important. So he did what he wanted and ran the local smuggling operation bringing in wine, fabric and other items from France. Maggie was raised by her brother after their parents die. Evan was only 15 to her 5 and did the best he could. Maggie wore pants, could fight and shoot and drink mostly anyone under the table. Years later, he is thinking of Maggie's future. He wants her to marry but this entails wearing gowns and becoming lady. Maggie is furious. Colin and Maggie have several things in common. They are both stubborn and both follow their siblings to the Battle of Culloden. They are both captured and taken prisoner. Colin is beaten and tortured on a daily basis. The Englishman Abbott knows he is a smuggler and plans on hanging him soon. Colin and Maggie have been in the same cell for several weeks but he never knows she is female because of her small frame, the way she is dressed and how she keeps to herself and silent. Colin then has the opportunity to escape and takes "the lad" with him as he feels the lad will not survive. Maggie has grown to respect Colin as he returns from terrible beatings with his head held high. When she is given the opportunity to escape, she goes for it. What will happen when Colin finds out "the lad" is in fact Maggie? Will Colin get back to his lands and will Maggie be forced to marry? I have read another book by this author and I also enjoyed that one as much as this. Her writing has a great even flow to it. Colin and Maggie are so sad in their own way. Colin doesn't know good feelings besides baser needs. He doesn't know how to really care for anyone. Maggie doesn't feel her life should change. They basically have no life skills, especially Colin. It's wonderful to see them grow, as painful and confusing as it is for them both. They teach other love and friendship and learn how to make friends. They learn they can be themselves and still be good people. This is a good read and I enjoyed it!

Warning: This book may cause you to lose sleep as you won't want to put it down! Can you tell I enjoyed this book? I think it's better than the first one in this series, "Sutherland's Secret". This is Colin's story. We met him in the first book and he is chief of Clan MacLean and in an English prison. He has been beaten and is set to hang, when Iain Campbell shows up and tells him of an escape plan. Although he does not trust Campbell, he is not going to turn him down. When he heard the cell door being unlocked, he took off accompanied by the silent boy who shared his cell. As they escape into the hills, Colin becomes feverishly ill from his wounds but finds a stocked cave to hide in. The lad stays with him and tends him until he awakens. He soon discovers the lad is a very pretty lass, Maggie Sinclair, though she certainly doesn't act like a lass. She dresses as a lad and never lets her guard down. He needs to get to Sutherland's lands and plans to take her home on the way. I hate to write plot spoilers so I'll only write the bare minimum. They arrive at her brother's lands but things happen there and they are forced to marry. They leave her brother's and make it to a safe house after several dangerous incidents. Sutherland finds them there and takes him to his home. When Campbell arrives to tell them that the English have taken over Colin's holdings, they devise a plan to take it back. Read this very good book to find out how. I am looking forward to the next book in this series, "Campbell's Redemption". Thank you to the publisher and Net Galley for allowing me to read an ARC. This book will be released on June 28th!
