    I LOVE IT!

I think this is the best book on Flash in the whole world. It backs up everything with a 'Why this is,' and it describes it with much detail. A very good buy.

Full of errors. CD files are mislabelled. Plain old bad writing!!

I'm not usually inclined to right book reviews, but I feel duty bound to warn readers to stay away from this abysmal waste of $35. The writing is barely acceptable, although the it's clear that the text was never edited. How many times can you say 'this feature is beyond the scope of this book?' Screenshots are sparse. You'll wander over pages of descriptions like 'click the icon that resembles a backwards 'P''. Hey, Peachpit-- a picture is worth a thousand words. The CD contents are a garbled mess. Did these writers ever use a technical book themselves? Have they ever heard of folder hierarchies? The files are not where they are supposed to be. What's more, none of the files are named descriptively. How about a simple 'lesson1_logo.jpg'? Instead you're rooting around the Media folder and hunting and pecking to find the files that are mentioned in the book. No thought whatsoever was given to naming conventions. The Actionscript chapter is an unmitigated disaster. The writers dive right into a few turnkey examples of scripting after just barely glossing over such fundamental concepts as dotted syntax, let alone concepts such as function calls and conditionals. The first script example describes navigation using a button object without adequately introducing the reader to event handling, frames, scenes, or markers. If you are an Actionscript novice you will be hopelessly lost. Lastly, the book looks to me to be entirely out of sequence. Sentences like '...earlier, we covered so-and- so...' when the authors clearly did not. This is definitely one of the worst computer manuals I have ever come across.
