In the second River Road Mystery from USA Today bestselling author Susan McBride, Helen Evans must find a killer before her granddaughter is arrested for murder!

When tiny River Bend, Illinois, is hit by a string of burglaries even Sheriff Frank Biddle can't solve, the clients of LaVyrle's Cut 'n' Curl can hardly talk of anything but. There are no signs of forced entry and no fingerprints, and valuables are missing from secret hiding places, as if the thief knew what he wanted and just where to look.

Helen Evans wonders what the world has come to if even their once-quiet town isn't safe anymore. Then Grace Simpson, a big-city psychotherapist who had opened up shop in River Bend, is found dead on her bedroom floor, and Helen's granddaughter is caught with the murder weapon in hand.

Editorial Reviews

Maggie Barbieri
“Move over, Jessica Fletcher—there’s a new sleuth in town! Susan McBride creates a world in which small-town intrigue rivals that of anything that happens in the big city.”
Denise Swanson
“To Helen Back, the first in Susan McBride’s new River Road mystery series, is packed with small-town charm. The clever senior sleuth is a cross between Miss Marple and your favorite grandma, and the intriguing plot will keep readers turning the pages until the surprising conclusion.”

    Small town mix ups

An interesting story where we meet the entire town, and try to find the one who committed the murder. Well written, almost as good as Agatha Christie!

    Not so much

The book seemed to be written at about a 6th grade level. The ending was apparent within a few pages of the initial introduction of the guilty party. As soon as the murder happened I knew who did it. I will avoid this author in the future.

    Favorite ebook author

So far Susan is far and away my favorite ebook author. Sometimes, frankly, you get what you pay for; in the case of this author, this book was a steal!

Short traditional mystery without themes so cant call it a cozy

No cute pun title just a small town and average sherriff and a tell all book however no one seemed to remember who knew all about what was in book having had to transcribe from handwritten to final manuscript as no one can do a first draft without typos and editing . town this small would bring in state or county police too
