Recipes and strategies for bringing back the family meal

When first published in 2009, Lucinda Scala Quinn's Mad Hungry met with critical acclaim, but it wasn't just the media that fell hard for this book--it was mothers everywhere, who embraced her message to bring back the family meal and loved the ease, simplicity, and robust goodness of her recipes. The book went on to launch a TV series (Mad Hungry with Lucinda Scala Quinn) and now, with over 65,000 copies sold, it is available in a paperback edition that will reach a yet wider audience.
In Mad Hungry, Scala Quinn shares winning strategies for how to sate the seemingly insatiable, trade food for talk, and get men to manage in the kitchen. She provides recipes for single-skillet meals, dinners that yield fabulous leftovers, and dishes that are a cinch to stretch fore extra guests. Her grab-and-run breakfasts will help kids start the day right, and her healthful drinks make it easier for guys to say no to soda. Along with her techniques that help make homemade meals second nature, nourishing both diner and cook, Scala Quinn offers empowering advice on how to feed one's family's spirits as well as fill their bellies.

    Perfect Cookbook

This is definitely a cookbook I would buy and I did - this is after I stopped buying any new cookbooks the past four years and now use the computer (and internet) exclusively. Every recipe is a winner and incredibly explained. The slow cooked pork - either cuban or asian - is the absolute best. Even non-eaters ask for thirds and no matter how large the piece there are never any leftovers. Another winner is the flattened chicken. And even though potatoes are no longer in my repetoire just for healthier eating, these are irresistible - the Italian fries. I continue to find excuses to make them. Every recipe is a winner. This book makes you want to try every recipe.

I have now given this as a gift to all of my foodie friends and everyone of them continues to thank me over and over as they make new recipes.

    Enjoyable to read and use.

After watching Ms. Quinn on tv for years,I was excited about her new cookbook and I was not disappointed!

She filled her book with simple and tasty food, but that is only the beginning. This book is brimming with good advice, how tos, menus, and delightful stories about her sons and husband. I have had fun not only trying all the recipes, but also learning from all the knowledge she shares. This is a book that you will use again and again-and you will learn something new every time!

    Realistic & delicious cooking

This book offers a wide variety of recipes that use easy-to-obtain food items and provide clear cut directions. I especially like the anecdotes that accompany the recipes, for instance when the author's son had a cough that was not going away, and she gave a particular soup to help him recover and gain strength. I found the recipes to be appealing in general and that they have a nice mix of meats, vegetables, and other ingredients. There are also recipes from different types of cuisines and categorized according to breakfast, dessert, and so on. The book itself is comparatively large and hard-bound and easy to manage.

    looks good so far

Some appealing recipes & nice tips here. A little skimpy on the photos, but the instructions seem fairly clear.

    Don't buy

This book has nothing in it but a story about feed men & boys. There are no recipes! It's only 46 pages long for $2.99? How can that be?
