Overview

Rafael Estrella's Dual Language Library is dedicated to bringing classic titles to a bilingual interlinear format specifically for e-Books. This version brings you Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. It contains the story of Emma, a dissatisfied, bored housewife who dreams of a better life while her husband remains unaware of her infidelities.

I have preserved the original translation of Eleanor Marx Aveling from French to British English as much as possible. However, there have been a few clarifications and edits made. An interlinear format was preserved as much as possible but due to the length of certain sentences as well as inherent differences in grammar and punctuation between the two languages, you will find unusual breaks throughout the text. I have also added text the translator failed to include. If you find any errors, omissions or if you have any suggestions, please notify us at .

Madame Bovary was written in 1856. Its author, Gustave Flaubert, was born on the 12th of December, 1821. He died on the 8th of May, 1880 at 58 years of age. This work was translated by Eleanor Marx Aveling in 1886. She was born on the 16th of January 1855 and died on the 31st or March, 1898 at 43 years of age.
