Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Denise Daley
Maddie has big dreams. Unfortunately, she does not dream about getting a good grade on her math exam. Instead, Maddie dreams about being a successful singing star. Why does she even need to know math? Maddie's friends remind her that her parents will be meeting with the teacher several days after the math test. Knowing that her parents are already upset about her poor grades, Maddie conspires with a friend to cheat on the test. The situation has poor Maddie so worried that she decides not to cheat after all. Sadly, Maddie's decision comes too late because her teacher finds the cheat sheets that Maddie hid under her desk. Some good does come from the situation as Maddie learns about the value of hard work and the satisfaction that comes from doing a good job. This beginner's chapter book successfully deals with an important issue in a lighthearted manner. It is quick and easy to read and the black-and-white illustrations add to the story's light humor.
