EXCERPT

January 7

The exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power.—EPH. i. 19.

The lives which seem so poor, so low,
The hearts which are so cramped and dull,
The baffled hopes, the impulse slow,
Thou takest, touchest all, and lo!
They blossom to the beautiful.

SUSAN COOLIDGE.

A root set in the finest soil, in the best climate, and blessed with all that sun and air and rain can do for it, is not in so sure a way of its growth to perfection, as every man may be, whose spirit aspires after all that which God is ready and infinitely desirous to give him. For the sun meets not the springing bud that stretches towards him with half that certainty, as God, the source of all good, communicates Himself to the soul that longs to partake of Him.

WM. LAW.

If we stand in the openings of the present moment, with all the length and breadth of our faculties unselfishly adjusted to what it reveals, we are in the best condition to receive what God is always ready to communicate.

T. C. UPHAM.

    Spiritual Growth in a Book

This is essentially a book and a program for spiritual growth. As Christians, we often find many challenges in our daily lives in living up to the example set to us by our Lord. This books helps us maintain the faith, every day of the year. The daily meditation format works well for me, and I can always carve out 5 minutes in a day to read the day's passage.

    Daily Meditations

This has some wonderful daily meditations from select Bible passages. There is a meditation for every day of the week. I open the day's reading in the morning, and I use it to guide my reflections for the rest of the day.

    Turned off by thy language

I find this too distracting due to King James language and roman numeral scripture reference. I regret not seeing a preview before purchasing. I would not recommend this for anybody who is turned off by the "thee", "thou" of five centuries ago.

Not what I was looking for

I am looking for a devotional book that is written in todays language that is easy to read and apply. This is not written that way. The bible verses are in KJV, which is fine but the daily devotal part seems to have nothing to do with it. Each day has a couple quotes or exerpts from a variety of people that don't seem to have anything to with the verse or anything devotional. Ok for some maybe but not for me.

Each Day I learn a new angle on life!

What I like about this thought for a day book is that it usually has a scripture quote, and 2 or 3 quotes by famous people. Many of the quotes are new to me, which is refreshing, and some of them are excellent. I use this book daily, and also the one by Charles Spurgeon with Morning and Evening Thoughts. They both are helping me to have a good mindsight for each day.

    Hard to understand!

I bought this book in hopes that would encourage me, well it is too hard to understand. A complete waste of money, wish I could get a refund!

This is Mary W Tileston's Daily Strength For Daily Needs. I don't understand why the publisher felt it necessary to change the title ... that only creates confusion. Nice little book, though ... have used it in hardcover for years.
