Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"The book comprises 400 photographs, 38 original dress patterns and interviews with the designer herself. Colorful visuals showcase Vionnet's preference for Grecian-style dresses and the bias cut, the latter on display in one of her black silk, satin-backed crêpe dresses, which she fitted with ripples at the hems and matched with a high neckline. Vionnet loved flow in dresses -- so did her famous clients like Marlene Dietrich and Joan Crawford -- and she was famously opposed to corsets. 'I have never been able to tolerate corsets myself, so why should I inflict them on other women,' she has been quoted as saying." --New York Times T Style Blog

100 years of fashion and still amazing!

Ms. Vionnet's book is a true work of art for the fashionista who knows REAL beauty in the draftmenship of dress making. The paterns are easy to follow that you'd think that they're not going to work well. But over all the styles and beauty of her work are so timeless and would work well then AND now! And I'm not a fashion junkie, I just like timeless pieces...

My best design book: extremely useful and beautiful

I have a huge collection of apparel design books, but this book is my favorite. It demystifies complicated bias cut designs, which is priceless. Also, it contains blueprints of actual Vionnet designs that you can use if you have a bit of experience in patternwork. They are amazing; I felt like I found Vionnet's original designs while poking around in an attic in Paris: euphoric!
