Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
In an extension of the original Madeline stories, this rhyming text tells of the young girl's escapades with her dog Genevieve. The girls all dress and go to out for a walk with the nun, but Genevieve has a mind of her own as she hunts for food in a garbage pail, grabs a fish and ends up a pretty smelly dog. The rest of the story relates how the girls give her a bath, but this dog is having none of being clean. She races out to the yard, digs a hole and rolls in the dirt. It ends with another trip to the bathtub and this time with both Madeline and Genevieve. The illustrations resemble the original artwork in the Madeline stories and are in themselves quite amusing. A Level 2 book in the "Penguin Young Readers" series. Also designated as Guided Reading Level "H," this transitional reader offers simple dialogue, picture and content clues, and contains a note to parents and teachers on the opening page.
