Henry-René-Albert-Guy de Maupassant naît le 5 août 1850 au château de Miromesnil à Tourville-sur-Arques et meurt le 6 juillet 1893 à Paris. Reconnu par ses contes (plus de 300) et nouvelles, Maupassant est aussi auteur de six romans dont Une Vie, Bel-Ami et Pierre et Jean sont les plus connus. Sa carrière littéraire se limite à la décennie 1880-1890. De nombreuses adaptations filmées conservent son renom.
