Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"The title of Madhur Jaffrey's Quick & Easy Indian Cooking (Chronicle, $19.95), an invitation to fast, flavor-filled food from the subcontinent, is not an oxymoron. Most of the more than 70 recipes, from soups to sweets, can be made in 30 minutes or less and the luscious, full-page, full-color photos add to the appeal." &mdashBookpage, January, 2008

    quick, easy and yummy

I highly recommend this book. I bought it with some reservations because my last Madhur Jaffrey book was quite complicated - even thought the results were great - but I need lots of time to cook from it. This book does not have that problem - it is wonderful! the recipes are quick, easy and the results are great. Many of the recipes can be cooked in a pressure cooker but I don't have one and so I just use a regular pot and cook things for a little longer. She gives you this option. Most of the recipes call for throwing everything into a pot and cooking it. What is not to love about that during the week!

    I Also Recommend:

    Mouthwatering!

Although I have several other of Ms. Jaffrey's books and Indian cookbooks by other authors, this is my "go to" book. Almost every recipe has a photo which immediately draws you into the book and makes you want to try the recipe. She gives both pressure cooker and conventional cooking instructions for many of the recipes. The ingredients are generally available (or there are instructions on what to substitute/omit or how to get them). In comparison with other Indian recipes, these are less time consuming to make, with fewer (relatively!) ingredients. Most importantly, the results are reliably delicious.

Great easy to use recepies and a good starter for non-Indian cooks.

It includes simple recepies with good results.

    Buy this book!

Madhur Jaffrey's terrific little book makes good on all three representations in the title: preparation is quick and easy and the results are definitely Indian. This is not watered down Indian; the spice combinations are subtle and full-flavored. The recipes are written for readers accustomed to American cookbooks; i.e., the measurements are accurate and time directions are specific.

    Most highly recommended

As a total neophyte to Indian cooking, I was skeptical I could produce food that tasted remotely authentic, but this book made it easy. We've built a cookbook club session around it and my husband and I are marching through the recipes with great enjoyment.

    Madhur Jaffrey's the best!

If you enjoy Indian food, you must purchase this book. I discovered the delights of Indian cooking on a visit years ago to London. After repeatedly dining at Punjab (the oldest Indian restaurant in London), I asked for a cookbook recommendation and was told any book by Madhur Jaffrey. This is a great introduction to Indian food. You may have to stock up on spices but you'll find the recipes easy to prepare and the results tasty and enjoyable.
