*This is a novelette that introduces you to Madly*

Madly is your average nearly-eighteen year old girl—for a princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in the small town of Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, the magically-protected home of Madly’s race. A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

In order to save her home, the lives of her family, and all of humanity, Madly must learn to wield her exceptional powers and recapture the Lore before it’s too late and all is lost. But Madly’s only help are her two best friends and the Sentinel, Jackson Hamilton, that threatens both her heart and her destiny. Madly has loved Jackson as long as she can remember, but he is the one thing even a princess can’t have. Can she resist love to become the queen she was fated to be? Or can she find a way to have both?

    Loved it!

Before I say anything about the book, I have to mention how much I love the cover for Madly! I think it is so gorgeous! Now about the book. I loved reading this novella! I think M. Leighton has created such a fascinating and original story, I really like how she mixes fairy tale characters with mermaids. I have never seen that done before. One of things I really liked about Madly was the wonderful cast of characters, I don’t think there was a single character I didn’t like. My favorite was definitely Jackson though! He was just so…dreamy! I am dying to read more about him! Overall, I thought this was a great introduction to this series and I can’t wait to read more!

MADLY, the opening novella to the Madly Series was a nice introd

MADLY, the opening novella to the Madly Series was a nice introduction to the world created by author M. Leighton. In it, we meet the main players for the series: Jersey, Aidan, Jackson, and of course, Madly.

Madly is a mermaid princess, and attends the Veritas Academy in Slumber. Madly is joined by her two best friends, Jersey and Aidan, and Jersey's brother, Jackson. As a princess, Madly is bound by certain rules of her society, namely who she can love. But the heart wants what it wants, and Madly's heart wants Jackson, a Sentinel. When Madly's family is taken captive, Madly and Jackson team up in their effort to save their true home, Atlas. But will their professional relationship survive when chemistry ignites?

I found this novella to be quite charming. Madly, in addition to her friends Aidan and Jersey, are fun characters, true friends, who display a great amount of heart. Jackson is pure swoon, a character who can make me melt page after page. The lore Leighton employs in MADLY is truly inventive and I can't wait to read more.

    Favorite Quote:

"Jackson's lips pursed as he kissed my fingertips, sending a shockwave of electricity scorching its way along my nerve ends. My eyes flew back to his. The sky blue was nearly imperceptible now, eclipsed by his ever-widening pupils. And in them there was a heat, a want that resonated somewhere deep within me. It fluttered in my stomach like a thousand butterflies, butterflies that knew something I did not. It burned in my chest like the age-old flame of recognition." (ebook, 23%)

Madly is a Princess and Mermaid or Mer. She keeps hoping the mat

Madly is a Princess and Mermaid or Mer. She keeps hoping the mating tie will occur with Aidan but all she feels for him is brotherly affection. Madly's best friend Jersey Hamilton is also her roommate. Madly's bracelet gives off a strange sensation during class which leaves her frightened and uneasy. Madly is stunned by the death of Lady Sheelah and immediately seeks out her parents. Madly receives devastating news about her family. One thing all Mer fear is the release of Lore. The Lore have taken Madly's family hostage. The Sentinel Jackson Hamilton takes over personal guard duty. Madly is struggling to think clearly around Jackson yet there is attraction there. Can Madly rescue her family? Will the mating tie work with Aidan? Can Madly handle her attraction to Jackson? Your answers await you in Madly.

I love this take on mermaids. I loved how mermaid and human culture blended together. I also appreciate the dynamic between Jackson and Madly. It's obvious that something is there but the question is will they act on it. I sure hope so.

Since the story is incredibly short with a total of 50 some pages my review will be quite brief. This short novelette is fun and exciting. Having only read 2 other mermaid books this one nearly tops them all. Madly is smart, innovative, and brave-especially for a mermaid princess. Jackson is gorgeous, strong, and self-contained with his emotions hiding the blinding fact that he's captivated by Madly but very hesitant to act on those feelings because he knows that they can't ever be together. There love is forbidden and that's why they are destined for each other. This is a fantastic mermaid tale of both love and adventure entwined with paranormal elements. It's fast paced and really a fantastic read. M. Leighton creates a compelling story with a fascinating introduction to the world of mermaids and twisted fairy tales. Immediately you'll want the next book because it leaves off right when things start to get interesting..

In this novelette we are introduced to Madly James and the world

In this novelette we are introduced to Madly James and the world in which she lives. On the surface, you would think she is a typical 17-year-old, but in actuality, she is a princess. Atlas, her home, lies deep beneath the sea. Magic protects Atlas and the town of Slumber. Here, she and her friends attend school and learn to interact outside Atlas with the human world. Then something happens, something that hasn't happened in hundreds of years, a Mer is murdered, but that is only the beginning. Someone has released the dreaded Lore, and they are holding Atlas, and Madly's family captive. As a result of the murder, someone from Madly's past steps back into her life, Sentinel Jackson Hamilton, hotness incarnate, the object of her affection for as long as she can remember. The problem is that she is betrothed to another who like her, is of royal blood. He is also her best friend, Aidan. Not only does Madly have to deal with the crisis of saving her race, but also the battle between her heart and her head, because the heart wants what the heart wants.

This is the perfect beginning to an absolutely awesome series. I loved Madly, and Jackson, well let's just say he makes you sizzle just to think about him. Aidan and Jersey (who is also Jackson's sister), are Madly's best friends and they have been together forever. They were fun to get to know, especially Jersey. The story is fast paced, entertaining, and romantic. Trust me, these Mer folk are some you really want to get to know. M. Leighton has done an outstanding job of laying the groundwork for a mesmerizing series.

I thought this sounded like a good adventure and love story, so I gave it a shot, not really knowing what to expect. I’m so glad I did! It’s a novella, meant to just give you a quick introduction into the world of Madly, and the efficiency with which that’s done is spot on.

We meet characters and learn a bit about them, we get a taste of the world, and we get a good feel about the current state of the characters in that world. Then we that all important conflict. The biggest part we learn is where Madly’s mind and heart are at, what the conflict will mean for Madly, and just the kind of toll it’ll take on her.
