Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Rosemary Moran
Cailet, the Mage Captal, dreams of starting her own Mage Academy, where she will train Mageborn children to take their rightful place in society on Lenfell, the world where the Mageborn retreated after their gifts were perceived to be a threat to the non-Mageborn, those possessing no magic. As her dream becomes reality, her sister Sarra moves forward with her plans to reorganize government for the benefit of her people. Cailet and Sarra are opposed by Glenin, their sister, who is aligned with the evil Malerrisi. Glenin will stop at nothing, not even using one of her own offspring, to bring about the destruction of her sisters' accomplishments. This second volume in the Exiles trilogy will appeal to those who appreciated the first in the series, The Ruins of Ambrai. The writing is fast-paced, the plot is convoluted and intriguing, the characters are richly drawn, and the society is similar enough to our own to be easily understood, yet different enough to pique the reader's interest. Rawn's attention to detail, together with the well-developed characters and exciting story, create a seemingly real fantasy world. VOYA Codes: 4Q 2P S (Better than most, marred only by occasional lapses, For the YA with a special interest in the subject, Senior High-defined as grades 10 to 12).

I have read this book more than ten times in the past 15 years and I would recommend it to any fan of the fantasy genre. However, I must warn anyone that reads this series. You are going to be in for tragically long wait for the final book. I have been waiting for the last book since this book came out, and that was 15 years ago. I fear that the conclusion to this tale may never be written. If you are the type of person, like me, that really hates unfinished works, avoid this series until the final book comes out. It is an injustice to the literary world that this amazing series may never be finished.

Ms. Rawn has left us hanging.....10 years!!!!

I really enjoyed the second of the series 'The Exiles' moreso than the first book. Doom and gloom pervaded both volumes and I hope for a brighter future for those the exiles....but where is the conclusion? I wonder if Ms. Rawn and Robert Jordan went to the same writers school...Hanging in the Breeze University of Writers.....

    I loved this book

    It's incredibly well-written and the plot twists though some of them you can kind of see coming *totally knew which one was Glenin's son*. I disliked the way she kills off all the great male characters in both books (I really liked Val & Aidan) and the characters relationships made me all tingly inside. I really do think Joss and Cailet would make a good couple, she needs some love after what Glenin did to her besides its only what? A 17 year age difference? o.o;;

    THE MAGEBORN TRAITOR WAS GREAT

This was a GREAT book! I TOTALLY loved it-I brought it with me everywhere, and stayed up till 1 AM to finish reading it! The only bad thing is she killed off one of my favourite characters! My favourite character is Taigan (don't worry she didn't kill her) and also Collan and Gorynel Desse. But, I'm glad she killed off that awful despicable-NOT GOING TO TELL YOU WHO IT IS IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T READ IT YET-. Ilove that Melanie makes the characters REALLY realistic-with flaws like normal people! And also, I liked the WOMEN OF GREAT STAUS AND POWER-men with nothing-although It messed up some of the things, so it turned out bad. It has loads of twists and turns-and that JORED! AUGH! I am ready to kill him for what he did to Taigan! And I'm also gonna kill Melanie for a) What she did to Collan b) Not coming out with the next book for THREE YEARS (Or so I'm told) PS-I HOPE Joss and Taigan get to be a couple-but his apparent Crush on Caliet (EW, can you say WAY TOO OLD?) will definitley make things difficult-but it'll probably be part of the plot in the next book, which I'm sure will be just as good, maybe even better! (HURRY UP MELANIE!)

    If you like quick reads...

I love this book and I love all of the books that Melanie Rawn has written. However, the rate at which these books are published is terrible. I want to read the next installment before I completely forget the previous! I love the way she writes, and I like the reality with which she writes. I like the fact that she isn't afraid to kill the good guys as well as the bad (unfortunately they tend to be my favorites).

    A fantastic fantasy!

This is truly an outstanding book, but you must read The Ruins of Ambrai first! I was a little afraid what new volume 2 could give being so long an all, but it was just as exciting and great as the first! This was the first book I started reading all over again right after finishing it!Only flaw:been waiting 3years now for the sequel!!!

    AN EXCELLENT FIND!!

This fantasy novel by Melanie Rawn was terrific! Full of suspense, magic, love, and betrayal, this book makes for a great read! I stayed up till 3AM to find out who was the traitor and what happens. Of course, what good book is without it's tragedy? This one is no exception, but that does not take away from the fact that is simply an excellent book. I can hardly wait for the next one!

    Another Superb Book

A truly entertaining story about love, hate, right, wrong and magic! Rawn shows you the deepest heart of her characters (but not all their secrets). They are PEOPLE. This family is torn in 3 different directions by the 3 girls, each knowing they are right and the rest of their world gets swept up in the battle! A great series. Unpatiently awaiting the next book.

Melanie Rawn spins a beautiful tale...

This book is truly excellent. It's a fascinating mix of politics, fantasy, and family conflict. I'm in love with some of the characters and I'd like to throttle others. Just the way I like it. My copy has been read to tatters!

    Wonderful!

Great characters in a story that moves quickly--wonderful book. Too long? Nope, just skirt length (long enough to cover everything and short enough to keep it interesting). Just wish Ms. Rawn would write faster!
