The book covers the key features of Magento that will help you get your store up and running. It guides you through installation, configuration, populating your store with products, accepting payments, maintaining relationships with your customers, and fulfilling orders.

When you create an online store with Magento, you usually follow a defined series of steps. This book is arranged to support that process. Each chapter shows you how to get the most from one step.

You will learn to customize the default Magento storefront so that it becomes yourstore and also about Magento's directory structure and where some of the elements of a store are customized. This experience will help you if you decide to go beyond this book and install new themes or create your own themes.

As you work your way through each chapter, your store will grow in scope and sophistication. By the time you finish this book, you should have a basic but complete, working online store.

Really good book, easy to read, has good tips

I worked with several PHP eCommerce solutions, but Magento is something special. During my first contact with Magento, I felt I can create an excellent out-of-the-box solution with minimum effort.

Like most of the things, if you want to use it properly it is really important to take some advice from experienced users. This book will give you full basic overview Magento and you will be prepared to make your complex webshop in no time. Chapters are written really simplistic, there are a lot of practical examples, tips and tricks and you will need 2-3 days to finish this book.

Beginner's guide will be useful to every experienced developer because it contains really good tips - how to group your products, what you need to keep in mind while you making product categories, how to combine product attributes, how to make grouped items, how to handle tax rates and shipping prices, introduction to stock handling etc.

Developer newbies will be very satisfied with this book because it will give them a full perspective how to create a good webshop. Shop administrators and product editors could also use this book - it has a lot of good information how to define your product, how you can configure search options, product categories on the main menu.

There is one chapter about layout customisation, but it has only basic informations how to change your default settings and how to implement already created Magento template. I would be really satisfied with more information about this topic. How to make your template from the scratch - that would be an excellent chapter. Too bad there is no such chapter in this book.

I have to say there is a really good chapter about payment process, merchant accounts, payment gateway, how to use Google checkout, Paypal and some other payment options.

If you want to learn Magento, this book is a really good option. Combine it with Magento webinars, Magento User Guide and you will be ready to make an excellent eCommerce application.
