Overview

The memoir of a love affair between a woman and her dog. No doubt Maggie was a special dog-a beautiful and exuberant black lab who gave years of unconditional love to her owner Kairns. Throughout their years together, Maggie taught Kairns much about the emotional intelligence of animals and the importance of trusting one's intuition when caring for a pet...Kairns offers a tantalizing glimpse into the possibility that her bond with Maggie was so deep that she had prophetic dreams in which she predicted the untimely death of her dog to an undiagnosed cancer...Tenderhearted and sincere...-Kirkus Discoveries

    Loved it!

I loved this book! It takes the love a dog deeper into your mind and soul. It brought out feelings I never knew I had for my pets. Its very well written. Maggie reminds me of my late dog Keesha. She was part Keeshond and part Australian shepherd. She was an amazing dog and a great friend. I miss her so much. This book is a good find. Bring the tissues. I highly recommend it!

Highly Recommended - I enjoyed this book very much!!!

This book is a must read for anyone that loves their dog. It has information in it that could help save your dogs life. This book was heartfelt and truly pulled on a few of my heart strings. I would like to say, thank you Dawn for writing this book and to MAGGIE for guiding her way.
Dawn's Maggie was such an inspiration to me that I named my new puppy after her!!!

Truly portrays the deep connection between dog and woman

As I turned the pages of Maggie, the dog who changed my life, I felt a powerful kindred spirit connection with Dawn and Maggie. Their story is so similar to my own, and the path I am now on because of my own lab, Cassie Jo, who I lost to cancer in 2005.
What I love about Dawn Kairn is the fact that she opens her heart wide to the world in sharing Maggie's story and their journey. She took an extremely difficult situation of realizing she should have followed her intuition, turned it into a positive, and now shares her truth in this deeply profound book.
We can probably all say that at least once in our life we have wished we followed our own intuition. Dawn's intuition of cancer in Maggie, along with her vivid dreams, which she recalled and wrote in exquisite detail after each dream, brought to light what her gut was telling her all along.
Even though there was a time Dawn could not forgive herself for not trusting what she believed was wrong with Maggie, she took a tough life changing lesson and turned into a blessing. The blessing of helping others understand that if our intuition is telling us something about our beloved animal, to follow it, no matter what anyone else says. She also takes all the heartache (and much joy) of her life with Maggie and shares it in this deeply moving memoir that I found very hard to put down.
I laughed, reminisced, forgave myself for my own guilt with Cassie Jo, and cried for the loss of Maggie, who was a beautiful, knowing soul. At times I felt as if Maggie and Cassie Jo were twins because of the amazing spiritual lessons they taught Dawn and I.
Dawn captures the essence and spirituality of dogs, as well as, eloquently gives us her heart by sharing Maggie with all of us, and I for one, am a better person for reading their story.

    A Memorable book and family

I have read many personal dog story books lately and this is by far the most moving book I have ever read. I was so impacted by it that I had to email the author to tell her how much I wish I could have met Maggie. I live in the area where it is written about and visited many of the spots that Maggie went. The educational information was of great value to me as I have been researching some of that already. I actually gave this book as a gift and it was lent back to me to read. I will now get my own copy for my library. Everyone owes it to themselves to spend the time enjoying this incredible life story.

A wonderful celebration of the bond between animals and their human

This book is a deeply moving story of the powerful connection between the author and her soulmate dog Maggie. This kind of a relationship tends to happen only once in a lifetime, and those of us who have been fortunate enough to share such a special relationship with an animal will find ourselves going down our own memory lane as we savor this book.

Maggie enriched the author's life in ways she never could have imagined when she took that little black Lab puppy home with her. Maggie's joyful exuberant spirit touches all who come into contact with her. Maggie opens the author's heart and teaches her about trusting her intuition and listening with her heart.

Interspersed with well-researched information about pet health care and advice on how to deal with the grieving process following the loss of a pet, this book shows us that animals are so much more than just pets. They are spiritual beings who are on this planet to teach us about joy.

My heart and soul were fully involved as I laughed and cried though this delightful book in one sitting!

This book captures the essence of the loving bond between animal and human. Clearly and with warmth we are shown via personal examples how much we really do "know" but are afraid to act on. Story after story brings you closer to the joy that comes as you return to being open to your own "inner sense". Maggie was this delightful catalyst of growth and self actualization. A must read for all who love and appreciate our animal friends. This book will not only delight you, but also will remind you of your close encounters with some special friends! Be prepared to reconsider some of your own beliefs--open up,live, enjoy!

The words on the pages are as beautiful as the face on the cover.

When someone says they have found their soulmate you immediately think it's a human. I have had dogs all my life but never considered one of my four-legged friends as one. Five years ago I adopted a dog that changed that. My Sadie is my soulmate. That is why I was captivated by Maggie, The Dog Who Changed My Life because Dawn and Maggie shared that soulmate distinction. Dawn's descriptive words allow you not just to read about her special bond with Maggie, but to feel what she experienced with Maggie during their time together. She also provides valuable information that opens your eyes to new possibilities in pet health care and nutrition. I recommend this book to those who have had the Dawn-Maggie type bond and those who hope to.

    A Must Read

This book made me laugh and made me cry. What a captivating story! Maggie was truly a special dog and a special spirit. The author's storytelling was vivid and alive. As an additional bonus I learned about such things as dog communication, dog nutrition & dog training. For anyone who loves dogs or has a dog this is a must read.

Grab a good cup of tea, a box of kleenex and a blanket, this is a book that you will finish in an afternoon

Maggie: the dog who changed my life is a beautifully written book. It will warm you heart with the special bond that we create with our dogs, the joys they bring to us, the unconditional companionship and their constant loyalty. After reading this I hugged my dog so tightly, and praised her for all she gives to me so freely. Thank you Dawn Kairns for sharing your beautiful story and the reminder that our intuitions are more powerful than we know.
