Children's LiteratureJosh is having memory problems, but quickly remembers that he owns a very special, magic backpack. A backpack that can fly him to school so that he isn't tardy, and one that is strong enough to give his friends a ride home also. As part of a geography project, each child is to bring something to help make a chocolate cake. The ingredients for the cake are things that originally came from various parts of the world. Josh is supposed to bring the chocolate, which his uncle grows in Africa. But, he forgets all about his assignment until he arrives at school the next day. But, with the help of the backpack he is able to fly to his Uncle's cocoa plantation and see how cocoa is harvested and processed. He returns before recess if over with a backpack full of cocoa and candy bars and saves the day. The recipe for the "Around the World Chocolate Cake" with frosting is at the end of the book. This is part of the "Flying Foxes" series that encourages children to think about foods and where they come from in their world. 2004 (orig.2001), Crabtee Publishing Company, Ages 6 to 9.
