    Buy this book

I have always found Magic Lantern books to be consistently excellent. There are two DVDs along with the text. The one specifically about the Nikon D90 is wonderful, clearly explained and illustrated. The second DVD is on taking great photos with your digital SLR. Again, excellent. Even though I've taken digital pictures for years, I still learned things with this set.

D90 DVD & Great Photos DVD

Great Photos DVD was a good overall review, but, the D90 was camera specific pointing out essential functions of the camera; how to use these functions to achieve certain results-- examples given. I have used SLR cameras for many years, but not familiar with some of the functions of a DSLR. Plodding through the book, that came with the D90, was not as effective as viewing the DVD which points out specifics along with examples and results. It was an excellent, hands-on learning (seeing and doing) experience. Why buy a DSLR if one is just going to use the point and shoot specific functions including "auto". the DVD explains better results that can be attained using the 'manual/ do it yourself selections available, setting lens opening and shutter speed, depth of field check, and numerous other explanations of what is available. The user can later venture out to learn & use other DSLR functions covered in the manual that came with the camera.

This item wasn't exactly what I was looking for but it did serve it's purpose.

It's the CD, not the book...

When I bought the book, I mistakenly believed it was specific to the Nikon D90. While the D90 is used in some examples, the text itself is a generic introduction to digital photography -- nothing special if you're familiar with 35mm photography. However, the CD is all about the D90, and in my view, very helpful in getting acquainted with the camera. It's organized well and makes far more sense than plowing through the Nikon manual (although I had read the manual prior to viewing the CD). The disc not only contains the "how to" in terms of using the various settings on the camera, it offers tips and suggestions from a pro that I found helpful as I began to shoot with my new camera.

This is a generic book; not specific to the Nikon D90

They slap a cover on it and sell any DSLR with it. The first CD is marginally useful for beginners. The second CD won't play on my (relatively new) Dell StudioXPS.

    Don't buy it!
