Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Elizabeth Young
Take a journey through the solar system, learning fascinating tidbits about each planet and other astronomical bodies. Ms. Frizzle and class begin at the center of our solar system and nearest star: our Sun, move outward to the icy dwarf planets and comets past Neptune. Pluto, formerly known as a planet, is considered a dwarf planet in this nonfiction companion to the popular “The Magic School Bus” series. Each double-page spread includes colorful photographs, delightful illustrations with concise facts, and a simulated homework assignment response on lined paper providing brief facts about each featured celestial body, including a “Frizzle Fact.” Books in the “Magic School Bus Presents” series are perfect for the classroom, to embellish the fiction series, or just for adventurers wishing for more useful information. Following the text are two pages of planet statistics, potential astronomical careers, and a well-done glossary of celestial terms to enhance readers’ knowledge of the universe. The book will fit neatly in a backpack, library bookshelf, and school desk and will be welcome in many classrooms and school libraries. Reviewer: Elizabeth Young; Ages 6 to 8.
