    The Best of Both Worlds

    Five years ago, Rachel Lindquist left California to chase her dreams - much to her mother's chagrin, dismay, and adamant disapproval. However, after learning that Addie is suffering from Alzheimer's Disease, Rachel returns home to try and reconcile the relationship and care for her mother. Unfortunately, the reunion between Rachel and Addie is anything but happy. Suffering the effects of her illness, Addie has a hard time even recognizing Rachel. When, in a lucid moment, Addie does have some memories of her daughter, they are all bad - memories of how Rachel betrayed her by running away with some 'good-for-nothing dreamer' instead of pursuing her illustrious career as an opera singer. To complicate matters, Addie swears that there is a ghost in the house and has hired noted parapsychologist, Bryan Hennessey, to investigate the matter and 'exorcise' the ghost from the premises. Rachel's immediate dislike for Bryan stems from her belief that he is taking advantage of Addie's depleted mental condition and from her disbelief in anything supernatural. This serves to create a tension in the house that is electric. As Rachel tends to the business of putting Addie's affairs in order and preparing to sell the old house so that she may return with Addie to San Francisco, Bryan continues to search for Addie's 'Whimsey'. In the process, a baffling mystery is uncovered and Bryan and Rachel find themselves entangled in a web of danger and deceit, as well as in each other's arms. Somewhere between her romance novels and her mysteries lies Hoag's Magic. The work combines the best of Hoag on love and relationships (as in Sarah's Sin) with the intense, page-turning drama of such works as Lucky's Lady, A Thin Dark Line, Guilty As Sin, and Cry Wolf. True fans of the author will find this a delightful book that provides all of the elements of any good story in true Hoag fashion - romance, suspense, mystery, comedy, and tragedy.

    Good Book

    I really liked this book. I am not a big fan of books that delve into fantasy, but this one was done nicely. I liked the way that ghost was trying to help Rachel and Bryan stay together.

    Fantastic Book!

    I happen to be a huge fan of Tami Hoag and this book did not dissapoint me in the least. Spellbinding! The desribtive language was very well done. Captivating. Opened up my mind.
