Overview

Just in time for the 2014 Fifa World Cup, Magic Tree House #52: Soccer on Sunday will take Jack and Annie to a soccer field in Mexico where they must find the final secret of greatness for Merlin. On the field, they'll meet a young soccer player who dreams of one day playing in the World Cup just like his hero, the great Brazilian soccer player, Pelé!

The Magic Tree House books, with their fiction and nonfiction titles, are perfect for parents and teachers just starting to get into the "Core Curriculum." With a blend of magic, adventure, history, science, danger, and cuteness, the topics range from kid pleasers (pirates, the Titanic, pandas) to curriculum perfect (rain forest, American Revolution, Abraham Lincoln) to seasonal shoe-ins (Halloween, Christmas, Thanksgiving). There is truly something for everyone here!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Phyllis Kennemer
Jack and Annie are excited about their upcoming time-travel adventure, so when they see the symbolic streak of light, they run to the tree house. They spot a pamphlet for the 1970 World Cup event in Mexico with two tickets inside. The tree house lands across the street from the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City and they discover they have two hours to reach the Aztec Stadium about ten miles away. They board the metro train, but are confused until a Mexican boy hears them and announces that he, too, is going the World Cup game. When they arrive, Jack gives his front row ticket to Roberto and climbs to Roberto’s seat which is so high that he cannot see the game or the great Pele. On the way back to the Embassy, they stop to play an impromptu game of street soccer and discover the fourth word in their search for the secret of greatness—Enthusiasm. Book #52 in this popular series does not disappoint. As with the others, it offers a good story filled with action and a sense of participating in an historical event. Part of the “Magic Tree House” series. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.; Ages 5 to 8.
