Meet the Author

Victoria, known as Vicki, was born in 1966, in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, to an Austrian immigrant mother and a Dutch immigrant father. She has one older sister, Jeannette. When Vicki was 7, she moved with her family to British Columbia. In her early twenties, Vicki moved to Western Washington and now resides in Marysville WA. She has been married to her husband Russ, for over twenty years and they have three children; Toby, Kristina and William. She has home schooled all her children, and she also teaches elementary school art. Vicki's other family members are, a Chihuahua, named Pipsy, two cats, Frodo, and Fritz, and a parakeet named Paulie. She did have a pet rat named Raymond when she started writing The Magic Warble, but sad to say, he has since passed away of old age. Vicki enjoys writing, painting watercolors, watching movies, hanging out with her family, and chauffeuring her kids around to their many activities. Her favorite author is C.S. Lewis, and one of her fondest memories is when she was twelve. She would sit at the kitchen table and read The Chronicles of Narnia to her mother while she cooked dinner. These magical stories were very dear to Vicki and she remembers wishing, If only I could go to Narnia like Lucy and Susan. Vicki hopes that maybe, she can touch someone with her story in a similar way.

    The Magic Warble

I loved this book it held my interest from beginnig to end. Its chapters move fast and I just wanted to keep reading it. It is very adventurous, and their is humor in it as well. There is a twist in the story that surprized me and I love it when writers do that. There is also a message of perserveriance, faith, and freindship. The story swept me away to another place and time. This book is great for kids as well as adults. A must to read.

I received the book several weeks ago. It's been difficult for me to find time to read, but even more difficult to put down the book once I've started reading!

Now, I'm not usually a fan of fantasy, fiction or magic; but the book is not only easy to read, it keeps you so interested you don't even realize how fast time passes.

The story of a young girl who is often overlooked and laughed at in school, becomes the story of a young girl who holds the one thing that will save the land of Bernovem, The Magic Warble.

Having been rather shy in school, I immediately related to Kristina; the 12-year-old star of this book.

I think many Military children will relate to Kristina in that they may move often, and/or their friends move, and they often find themselves trying to make new friends.

Without giving too much away (which I know is difficult, at best, to do because I want to share so much of what I read) the book is perfect for any age that can read it!

I even shared the book with an 8-year-old, who enjoyed it immensely. It's perfect for reading at bedtime, although it's hard to find a good place to stop because it's so engaging and gripping.

You'll find yourself rooting for Kristina, Prince Werrien, Looper, Clover and hoping they avoid Queen Sentiz, her servant Ugan and her evil zelbocks.

You'll get caught up in the adventure and even feel a bit sympathetic towards the very kids who made Kristina feel like such an outcast at school - Hester, Graham and Devina.

The adventure is as magical as the Magic Warble that Kristina must get to the top of Mount Bernovem.

Without giving away too many details, the book is filled with fairies, gnomes, zelbocks, and more magical creatures.

    You will enjoy the adventure!

I honestly don't know who enjoyed this book more, me or my 13 and 9 year old granddaughters! It's such a fun and interesting book, you can't put it down. What a magical journey you enter into when you open the book for the first time!

    Wonderful Children's Book

As the mother of a 12-year-old daughter who loves to read, it can be quite difficult to find appropriate reading material for her. I can’t allow my “tween” to read all of the YA books that she would love to, due to content that is still too mature. So, I was thrilled when Victoria Simcox contacted me about reading and reviewing her book, The Magic Warble, a beautiful fantasy book geared toward middle-graders. I applaud Ms. Simcox for writing a book that contains no profanity, violence, or other inappropriate content. What it does contain is an enchanting story with positive messages and positive role models. This is a wonderful, wholesome book that is also exciting and fun for kids of all ages. My daughter says she would also have enjoyed it before she became a middle grader, so I believe it is quite appropriate for elementary age. Since I haven’t been a middle grader for, *clears throat* um, quite some time, who better to finish the review on this awesome book than my very own and most favorite middle-grader in the world? Here is what she thought about The Magic Warble: Kristina Kingsly, a twelve-year-old girl who receives a mysterious gift from her teacher before Christmas break, is awoken one night by a buzzing noise coming from somewhere in her bedroom. The gift she was given by her teacher, Miss Hensley, came in some sort of hatbox, and she had carelessly tossed it under her bed the day before when she couldn’t open it. But now, as the buzzing seems to be growing louder… and seems to be coming from underneath her bed… Kristina pulls out the box and opens it, only to find a tiny, silvery, tarnished ball. What kind of gift is that? Just as she is about to go back to sleep, she suddenly finds herself in a different place! Not like one of those times when you close your eyes and feel like you’re somewhere else… she literally appeared in a beautiful garden in a pile of leaves. Afterwards, she learns she is the “Chosen One,” brought to this land, Bernovem, to place the little tarnished ball… or the Magic Warble… in its resting place. Currently, Bernovem is ruled by the tyrant Queen Sentiz. She knows Kristina is attempting to place the Magic Warble in its resting place and is bound and determined to kill Kristina and Werrien (the boy who is helping Kristina on her mission), take the Magic Warble, and destroy it, also destroying the only chance Bernovem has of being saved. While this book was very exciting and kept me on the edge of my seat, it also really touched my heart, especially when dealing with certain matters near the end; however, I can’t say any more without giving away too much. I’ll be honest, I cried near the end, and I agree with my mom - she says, “You know you’ve read a great book when it brings out that kind of emotion in you.” This book is absolutely wonderful - 5 stars! Victoria Simcox is incredibly talented. I enjoyed her writing thoroughly and adored all the characters! Fairies, gnomes, dwarfs, AND talking animals? I’m hooked! The cover also intrigued me… what a beautiful book! A spectacular read by a spectacular author, The Magic Warble is a new favorite of mine! I will most definitely be reading the sequel, The Black Shard, as soon as possible!

    The Magic Warble

Kristina is an unpopular grade school girl that can't seem to find anyone to like her, except for her pet rat. She is the recepient of a very special gift from her teacher, but it doesn't seem like much to begin with. A small ball that seems to make a funny little noise. But this is no oridinary trinket. Getting this to the right place could mean the life or death of all the magical creatures in the fairy tale world Kristina finds herself in.

The reader is introduced to gnomes, dwarves, fairies, and talking animals. There is betrayal, intrigue, sabatoge, and new friendship. This is an amazing book for young readers (my daughter is currently reading through it at 8 yrs old and loves it).

    I Also Recommend:

A book to bring out your fantasy loving inner child

The Magic Warble is marketed for ages 9-12, or for young adults, but book lovers of any age can appreciate this tale of adventure and dreamy fantasy.

Author Victoria Simcox creates a wonderful character in Kristina, a girl that other children (and even adults) can easily relate to. I was happy to have a heroine that wasn't the most popular and acted age appropriate. Don't worry that having a female lead character will put off any male readers - - my 13 year old son read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. As additional praise for Ms. Simcox, my son read this in a day and, not being a voracious reader like his mom, is very particular about what he reads.

What attracted me most about this book, other than the lovely and vibrant cover, was the description of gnomes, fairies, talking animals and an evil witch. The Magic Warble reminded me, at times, of both The Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter series of books but it most definitely stands strongly on its own.

I found it an enjoyable read and one that would be absolutely appropriate as a family read due to no objectionable language or situations, and with undeniably good underlying messages about friendships and perseverance. The fantasy and adventure elements are top notch and the best part of the book, in my opinion. Reading the descriptions of Bernovem and its varied residents created vivid images in my mind, which were helped by the black and white illustrations throughout.

I was happy to spend a few magical days in Bernovem with Kristina and Raymond, and all the wonderful people, dwarves, gnomes, fairies and talking animals they encountered, particularly Werrien, Rumalock, Clover and Looper.

I only hope, based on the ending, that Ms. Simcox possibly has a sequel up her sleeve.

Recommended for adventure and fantasy lovers of all ages who want to celebrate their youth or reclaim it.

    Enter a World of Magic

Kristina has only one friend in the whole world, Raymond her pet rat. Kids at school mostly teased her and made her feel bad. Her life changes when one day she gets the strangest gift, The Magic Warble, from her teacher and is cast into Bernovem, a land of dwarfs, fairies, and other talking animals who address her with importance as "The Chosen One".

She makes friends and meets Werrien, who turns out to be a prince, but whose family has been banished from their throne by an evil Queen Sentiz. Kristina must join forces with her new friends as they guide her to the spot she alone must place The Magic Warble so that all of Bernovem can return as it should be and so she can be able to return back home to her world.

I loved this fantasy tale. I related so well with poor Kristina feeling unpopular but then excited for her when she holds an entire kingdoms well being in the palm of hand literally.

    Bridget's Review

Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime? Kristina considers herself to be an outcast at school. She's at the awkward age of twelve and she has no idea how to get her peers to look at her as a human being. When Christmastime comes, Kristina receives the gift of a lifetime. She travels to a magical land that includes fairies, dwarfs and talking animals.

It is Kristina's destiny to save this magical land from an evil queen. In order to do this, she must put the "Magic Warble" in its rightful place. She soon discovers that this will be far from an easy task. Luckily, she makes some friends along the way to help guide her. Will she be able to fulfill her life's purpose?

This is an enchanting book that pushes fantasy to the limit. As a child, I always fell in love with the magical realm and the kid in me couldn't put this book down.
