Gr 4-6 This book joins the long list of biographies about Gandhi for young people (many of them published in recent years). This biography has the virtue of being a clear, concise, and straightforward account. Much of the background information about the political situation in India or the history of British colonialism is left out in order to concentrate on telling the story of Gandhi's individual search for truth. Gandhi's autobiograhy is frequently quoted and appears to be one of the authors' major sources. Overall, this is a solid biography for children. It is for a younger audience than Bush's Mahatma Gandhi (Chelsea House, 1985). On a comparable level, however and, in fact, very similar to this book, is Spink's Gandhi (Hamish Hamilton, 1984).
