This is my favorite among many great recordings of Mahler's 2nd symphony, coming from Zubin Mehta and the Vienna Philharmonic, neither generally known for their Mahler. It is taut, exciting, dramatic and the finale is overwhelming! It has the added advantage of fitting on a single CD. The primary drawback is a slight distortion in the sound at the loudest parts, but I find this to be a minor qualm given the overall excellence of the performance. For other great recordings, try Klemperer on EMI or Bernstein on DG.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
