Music flowed from Gustav's pen. Close affinity into Alma's psyche characterized the treatment of his heroine in this recording. <BR/><BR/>Here we can feel how much composer and conductor are generous and noble, with poetic vision, depth and richness of feelings. Karajan's conducting is profuse like telling us the theatrical incidents with elaborations into the ideas. Karajan's interpretation has a curious mixture of a most penetrating insight into Mahler's dramatic values.<BR/> <BR/>We can appreciate the spirit of Music (and only music) that prevails in Mahler/Karajan association. Music is beyond cavil, it overrules trivial arguments which now look anachronous, and misdated. Music has nothing to do with past ideological applications that have been the chief failing of outstanding genius - Mahler. Looking back on this chapter, however fierce the quarrels with the composer on strong and silly ideological limitations, I presume that if Mahler had lived to hear his music under Karajan's magic, he would have angered by the agony that, during his time, art and ideology failed to come to terms with each other.Was this review helpful?
