Great fun read!

This book was just fun. Fun, fun, fun. From the comic background characters, to the main characters with their real problems. If you're a fan of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels this is a series for you. The exotic local adds just the right amount of spice to the mystery, and the actual plot of the mystery is just convoluted enough to keep you guessing. Snatch up this book right away!

Reading Clubs Grab this and make up some Mai Tai's

Jill Marie Landis has written a winner with Mai Tai One On, the first book of the new Tiki Goddess series. Put on your puka shell necklace, grab a mai tai and get ready for a Hawaiin vacation! This book has all the ingredients for a summer fun read or a cold, "I wish I were in Hawaii", winter read. There is the exotic location, suspense with a couple of murders and kidnappings to solve, romance and the laugh out loud antics of, my favorite dancers, The Hula Maidens. Reading the final chapter I couldn't help but wish the second book was already available. I think this book makes a fun reading group selection. I love this book!

    Comedic Mystery

This sounded like a fun read and came highly recommended by authors I love like Kristin Hannah and Carly Phillips. This isn't my typical genre but, I was willing to take a chance.

I was expecting a little more "romance", but it was mostly mystery with a comedic twist. Since I have never been to Hawaii, some of the terms and way of life described in Hawaii was new to me. I could see those who are familiar with the Hawaiian life-syle would appreciate that part of the book more. I did appreciate the author making one of the characters from Iowa and not making her too "hickish".

Since there were a couple murders and an attempted murder in the story, you were easily drawn into finding out who was the next to fall and who the murderer was. Even though the story leads you in several directions, I did guess the murderer early on, but it didn't change my interest in finding out if and/or how that person would be caught.

This was an enjoyable light read. It is perfect for a weekend getaway or for taking a break from heavier reading. It will make you laugh and make you wish you were relaxing at the Tiki Goddess bar yourself! The fun part is, the author includes some signature Tiki Goddess drink recipes at the back of the book. I may have to try out some of those! I will be watching for Book 2 of the series to come out!

I loved this book. I'm a mid-50's male so probably not the target audience but I still loved it. (My wife tells me it sounds like an Evonovich book.) I bought to read while in Hawaii but enjoyed it so much I bought the second one read at home. It's relatively short (my only complaint) but a fun read.

I love the Hawaii setting and if you are familiar at all with Hawaii you'll really appreciate the references and lifestyle.

If you are looking for Tom Clancy book, this isn't it. It has a good plot, and is fun and entertaining. Also one reviewer mentioned something about being offended by detailed descriptions of nudity. I wonder if they reviewed the wrong book? There might have been something in the last few pages but I don't remember any other situation that could remotely quialify as that.

I loved reading this book, loved the second one and am looking forward to the third!

    Fun in the Sun!

Emily Johnson needed to start a new life when her marriage broke up rather badly so she moved to Hawaii to help her uncle run his restaurant, the Tiki Goddess Bar, on the island of Kauai. Favored by locals and frequently drawing tourists under Em's management, the restaurant has finally begun to come into black ink for the first time in quite a while.

Then the unthinkable happens. A cantankerous neighbor is found face down in the luau pit and the most likely suspects seem to be Uncle Louie, bartender Sophie and Em herself. Sophie has a past that puts a target on her back and Uncle Louie had a longstanding feud with the victim. Em doesn't appear to have much of a motive but she finds herself in compromising circumstances more than once, leading the detective to be a bit suspicious.

The bar's free entertainment is the Hula Maidens, a group of, shall we say, well-aged ladies who will perform whenever they get the opportunity and they're not about to let the Goddess be put out of business by such a thing as murder. The wheeling and dealing by the murdered man's high-powered realtor niece who has inherited his house and wants to put up a high-value mansion isn't going to endanger their beloved bar either so they swing into action to help Em solve the case.

Before their sleuthing gets very far, there's another murder and Em disappears. Is this a sign of her guilt or is something more sinister going on?

Throw in a handsome fire dancing detective, a Liberace-like celebrity, a 95-year-old hula dancer in a mobility scooter and a parrot named David Letterman who frequently has to sleep off a hangover and the reader is in for a treat. The descriptions of this less-commercialized part of Hawaii are enticing, reminding me of why I wish I lived on a tropical island. The mystery itself is a bit lightweight---I identified the murderer early on--- but there is plenty of humor and a bit of romance, making this an ideal beach read, and I'm looking forward to the next book in this new series.

    Super fun!

This is a great read! The mystery keeps you guessing, the hot cop keeps your pulse up. The little touches of Hawaiian culture and the antics of the Hula Maidens make this a unique spin. This winning formula will keep me coming back for more! ..wjj

    Light and easy

Very similar to Janet Evanovich books, but not quite as good. Light and easy reading, funny story line and characters that are defined well enough that I got an actual mental image of them all. This book was written in a style that flows easily so one does not get tangled up in a tongue twisting vocabulary. Very enjoyable.

This is the first book I have read by Ms. Landis, but it won't be my last. I look forward to reading the next book in the series.

The characters are original and interesting. I enjoyed spending time with Em, Uncle Louie and the staff of the Tiki Goddess Bar in beautiful Kauai, Hawaii. Oh, and the Hula Maidens! Loved the oldster Hula Maidens! The story is entertaining and flows at a great pace. All with a mystery that had me guessing until the end.

I can't wait for my next visit to The Tiki Godess!

    Mission 1

It has recently come to my attention that there is a evil clan called Venomclan led by Scalestar. This clan is being hunted for by The Elite, Razeclan, and Bloodclan. One of Broken's kits, Travel, was stolen and taken. I belive it could publisize, and heroize (not a word, I know) the Enclave, if we find and bring back Broken's kit. (We are good, and this is an innocent kit stolen from his father and mother. We may also be able to turn Travel around, and have a powerful link. But neverless, Broken would owe us a huge favor. And those are always handy.)

The Mission: to find and return Travel to Broken
Reward: rank up

This is a complicated mission, so naturally it will have steps.
Steps:
1. Find Venomclan or
1b. Infiltrate Venomclan
2. Take Travel
3. Hide Travel
4. Find Broken and return Travel

Backround research may be nessesary. Here is what I know:

The leader of Venomclan is Scalestar, adressed to all as 'lordship'. The deputy of Venomclan is most likely Finny. Other members include: Songwood (spy for Venomclan in The Elite), Tigerscar, (others may be found at 'treasure island' result one. NOTE: not all cats there are in Venomclan!!!). Venomclan is very careful to erase all evidence. And that is all I know.

Good luck! Any questions, updats, ect shoukd be posted in res two.

    Fun read!

This was an easy fun read. The Hula Maidens are a hoot . Kauai is my favorite place to be, nice to read the familiar places and the touch of Hawaiian spirit. Even if you have never been to Hawaii you will enjoy being transported to this tropical paradise. The twists and turns so the mystery will keep you turning the pages and when it is ended you will look for more.
I hope Jll Landis continues to write this series.
