A loveless marriage of convenience on the Kansas prairie turns out to be far more than she bargained for...

Brigs Brigman has been burned once before, and the last thing he needs is a beautiful wife who will spend hours in front of the mirror, primping herself. He knows how hard the prairie can be on a woman, and all he wants is a stalwart bride who won't complain about hauling water from the creek....
All Sarah MacFarland wants is to escape her fearful life in Boston and start fresh with a new identity. Answering an advertisement for a mail order bride on an isolated Kansas farm seems like the perfect solution, until she meets her soon-to-be husband-a ruggedly handsome, strapping farmer who is inexplicably guarded...yet fiercely protective, and so incredibly virile, he leaves her breathless on their wedding night. But is it possible that two tormented souls can find happiness, when all they know is betrayal, and when trust is the only way out of a tumultuous past that simply won't stay buried?

I hate cliffhangers. This is not a cliffhanger! I found the book poignant and interesting. It also brought home to me how much smaller the world is today. If I wanted proof that someone was lying, today I could use my phone and call someone instantly and I could find the truth. In this historical time, the quickest method to use would have to send a telegraph, have it delivered, have the receiver read then send out a responding telegram. Then you would have it delivered to your home/business, then upon your receipt, you would have your answer. I enjoyed this story because it brought two broken souls together, and through trials and tribulations, they find that living could be hard unless you had someone backing you! I recommend this book.

I enjoyed reading this book. I wished the next one in the series was free. But, it's not! You might want to check for typo's quite a few i dont know if u can see my notes but i left some corrections on the area. Not to insult you but just so it could be fixed. I would have rated it a 5 without the typo's. I love a good love story.. this is one of them. Will look forward to reading more of your books. Thank-you T

With a new look for her first book, Julianne MacLean delivers. I have read her The Color Of series and loved those books. This book is much different as it happens in the 1800's. I love historical fiction and I love to learn about different time periods in our history. I loved this book! The characters of Sarah and Briggs are likeable and well developed. The story flows effortlessly and grabbed my attention from the very first page. It held my attention throughout the book and I could literally not put it down. I read it in one day! The times are vividly described and I felt like I was wearing a long dress and walking along beside them. This is a wonderful book, by an incredible author. I highly recommend this to anyone who adores historical fiction as I do. This book is well written in true Julianne MacLean style, awesome! I received an ARC of this book for review.

As if living on the prairie wasn't difficult enough... Briggs has vowed never to fall in love again. A pretty face and tender feelings only lead to trouble. However, he need someone to help him out on his land. Taking out an ad in the paper for a bride seems to be the perfect solution. Things aren't always as they seem. Sarah has found the answer to her desperate prayers in the ad. She needs to escape Boston and the clutches of the criminal who has her under his thumb. But Sarah's secrets start to upset the delicate thing growing between her and Briggs. I adore this book. MacLean's detailed descriptions of life on the prairie add so much to the story. It gives a better understanding of the characters themselves as well. All of the characters are so vivid and real it's impossible not to get sucked right in. There was so much emotion and humor in this story it was a real treat to read. *I received an ARC in exchange for an HONEST review*

New cover for Julianne McLean first book that she had out . What I liked was Julianne wrote about a time that mail order brides were common for the US west .... But also for North America . Most men put an add in the newspaper looking for. Mate . Hero is Briggs and Heroine is Sarah . Briggs is going in to Dodge City to meet Sarah , who answered his ad in a newspaper back in Boston . Briggs was in love with another woman that found the handle the rough life out in Dodge city. Briggs was ready to marry her . Briggs ground into Dodge city to meet Sarah . Briggs is hoping that Sarah is not beautiful and she can handle life being hard out west . Sarah answered the add in the in the Boston newspaper. Sarah is hoping to escape a man and a situation . Sarah is hoping going out west to Dodge city will do it . That her former male will not find her . The situation with the male is that he and Sarah were married . She found a secret about him . Did Sarah read the situation right ??? Did Sarah handle the life out west ??? How did Briggs really feel about her ???

This was, for me, a heart wrenching story but beautifully written and I couldn't put it down until the very end. Gosh, life was a bit harsh in the good old days, wasn't it? Of course the villian's past caught up with him and he eventually paid for it. The old girlfriend tried to come back and so on, but the way this story is written the two main characters are like a pair of yoyo's playing out the good and the bad incidents in their lives. An ARC copy of the book was provided by the author at no cost in exchange for my unbiased review.

I was offered an Advanced Review Copy in return for a honest review. Authur "Briggs" Brigman is still nursing a broken heart, when he posts an advertisement for a mail-order-bride. In need of a woman who can pull her own weight on his harsh prairie homestead. No pretty faced debutant need apply. He learned his lesson. Fleeing Boston to wed her Kansas husband, Sarah MacFarland has hopes for a better life, a safe haven, but can she continue on with her lies? How will Briggs take to his new, pretty, proper wife? Can he give her the life she is searching for? Can she adapt to farming life? Will their marriage last? Loved this novel! Nicely written Western Romance set in 1875 Kansas. For a woman, during that time in history, to set out into the unknown was courageous. That alone should have proved how strong she was to Briggs. Briggs needed Sarah, needed the healing she brought into his life, and he to her. Great couple, and first novel in the Dodge City Brides series! - Sarah

When Briggs advertised for a mail order bride he had no idea how his life would change. Sarah had a past and was afraid it would catch up to her. She hoped that Briggs would love her. As her past came out they both had to deal with questions about there past as Briggs had secrets to. I loved the story and it kept me glued to it.

Briggs has been burned by love before but he still needs a wife to help him at his Kansas homestead. Sarah MacFarland needs to get away from Boston and the man who she thought she loved. Now she is headed to Kansas to be a mail-order bride and hide her secrets. What will happen when her past comes back to find her. This is a fast paced Western Romance that is emotional and funny. The chemistry between Briggs and Sarah is sweet but steamy. I really liked it!
