This book reads like a novel, has an interesting story line and builds the reader up to an exciting climax. It was only after reading the book that I noticed the tremendous amount of research that went into the work. When I first started the book I thought that most of it would be just recollections Mr. Bearden had from his days in the CIA. Mr. Bearden's memory seems to be just the starting point for a great expanse of facts woven into a riveting story.

I feel that there are too many cliffhangers here and there throughout the story, and that he fails to fill in descriptions that would prove to be useful to someone not of military backround or not well informed on military history

Milt Bearden's been there...done that. A patriot on a GS-15 salary. But the book demands that the reader be familiar with names, places, details to go smoothly through the process. Readers with no such knowledge of clandestine warfare, Milt Bearden is one of a kind, even in this world. And these are his memoirs that the CIA will let him print...now. Okay! If you're a journalist with some field time in these areas, Milt's plunge through who did what, when, and to whom is one of the best. It's worth reading to get a peek into the insides and insights of one of the Cold War's great warriors. And besides, he's a natural story teller.
