Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
Since its early-'80s inception, Maine: An Explorer's Guide has blossomed: The 13th edition is more than three times the size of the original. Its 600-plus pages contain more than 1,000 dining and lodging reviews; 34 regional and downtown maps; a calendar of annual Maine events and celebrations; and an easy-to-use "what's where" alphabetical subject guide for trip planning.
Travel and Leisure
The most encyclopedic and useful guide to the state.
Maine Times
A narrative blend of hard fact, informed opinion, and pure style.
Library Journal
Originally published in 1982 and now in its ninth edition, this work by Tree (coauthor of three other Explorer's Guides) and Roundy (a Maine native and a writer for the Maine Office of Tourism) has been expanded and updated to reflect Maine's broader entry into the tourism industry. Logically and geographically organized into seven regional sections, each with clear maps, the book richly lists what to see and do; where to shop, eat, and stay; and annual special events. Phone numbers, readily identifiable addresses, hours of operation, approximate costs, and marvelously detailed explanations of selected facilities are included. The writing is accessible, and the information appears to be correct, current, and unbiased. Empty-nesters and active senior citizens in particular will find this book a boon for information on leisurely getaways and explorations. Some knowledge of Maine's geography would be helpful in deciding where, when, and what to see and do. Overall, this is a good buy for public libraries with patron interest in this topic. Great Resource

I ordered this book before we traveled to Maine and what a great resource this book was on the trip. The authors did an outstanding job researching the state and their comments about restaurants and places to see were on target.
