This has been a wonderfully wrought, inspiring generational saga of an engaging family history. The final installment pulls every thread together, and all the various parts and roles are as deftly brought together as in a brilliant painting. I enjoyed reading the novels and especially Promise Keeper. It brings to life the Maine Shore like no book I have ever encountered.

Meet the Author

After early retirement from teaching at State University of New York, I pursued free lance writing;a newspaper column in my home state of New York and feature articles for regional magazines in Florida. When our youngest son completed a geneological search of ancestors,I followed a dream, inspired to try my hand at fiction. My first book, a historical novel used family ancestors as true characters in a Civil War saga,FOUR SUMMERS WAITING. The novel was given a second edition in Large Print by Thorndike Press. When Four Summers Waiting rights reverted to me, I published it as an Ebook. Its success prompted the writing of a contemporary series, The MAINE SHORE CHRONICLES. Book One Finding Fiona, Five Star's First Edition was given a second published edition in Large Print by Thorndike Press as were the next two installments, Moonglade and Promise Keeper.

The first novel in this trilogy is entitled FINDING FIONA, an intriguing title for a compelling novel. Madelaine Fontaine is a teacher whose student, Rosemary Donovan, has an older brother, Patrick. Although Maddy has a boyfriend, Claude, she finds Patrick much more appealing and breaks it off with Claude. As the relationship between Maddy and Patrick develops, he confides about a family sorrow and secret. His sister Fiona had become pregnant by a man who claimed to love her but left her. She had disappeared a year ago and no one knew what became of her. Maddy is determined to help find Fiona. Her Tante Margaret is psychic and has visions. She helps Maddy. But when Maddy is injured and receives a concussion during a major storm, she has her own vision. It is 2005 and Maddy wakes to find herself at the old mill in 1905. She is confused but helped by Tante Margaret’s part Abenaki Native American grandmother, Hettie, who is long dead in the present. It is through this connection that she discovers the order of nuns at La Madelaine la Mer and the first real clue as to what has become of Fiona. Whether Maddy has actually time traveled or gone down the rabbit hole like Alice or visited Oz like Dorothy, this reader cannot say. And in fact, the novel is all the more interesting because of the ambiguity. This is the story of family and the secondary characters are well-defined and fully developed. They are primarily French Canadians originally from Quebec who ended up in Biddeford, Maine. As the author points out in an end note, this is a real place and it comes off that way. This is fine read which was originally a well-reviewed hardcover novel and also became available in large print. A real bargain as part of an e-book trilogy! Moonglade In this second novel in the trilogy, Maddy’s roommate “CeCe,” Clare Chamberlaine,  who is an ER nurse, finds a dead body while taking a sailing lesson in Saco Bay. Clare and Sergeant Remi Windspirit of the Maine Marine Patrol become romantically involved after he comes to her apartment to take a statement from her. Tante Margaret who has raised the orphaned Clare like her own daughter uses her psychic ability to help supply clues to solve the dead woman’s murder. Again, the secondary characters in the Fontaine and Chamberlaine families are warm and well-developed individuals. There are also lovely descriptions of the Maine coast. Promise Keeper When Professor Jacques Fontaine finds the body of one of his students, he collapses. His children, Paul and Maddy are concerned. This is followed by the theft of a valuable Monet painting at the Cornerstone Gallery and the disappearance of Suzanne Petrone, who loaned it to the gallery, which sends Paul Fontaine, who is the gallery’s director, on a search for both. When the stolen painting turns up for sale in Sarasota, Florida, Paul travels there in the hope of solving the mystery in that city and finding the truth about Suzanne’s connection to the painting. Tante Margaret again uses her psychic powers to help provide clues. Altogether, there are three fine romantic mystery novels in this series. Quite a good deal for readers!
