Maisy's friend Charley has a wobbly tooth! He's going to the dentist for the first time, and he’s a little nervous. Luckily, Maisy, Tallulah, Eddie, and Cyril are happy to accompany their toothy friend to the dentist’s office, where they make some fun discoveries: a twirly chair that goes up and down, a special cup to spit in, and a proper tooth-brushing demonstration. Charley gets an x-ray, a smiley button, and a book to take home, but what will happen with his wobbly tooth?

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Maisy the indomitable mouse returns for a universal experience in Maisy, Charley, and the Wobbly Tooth by Lucy Cousins. Charley's tooth may be wobbly, but his friends are steadfast: they all accompany him to the dentist, who explains that a new tooth will grow in place of his loose baby tooth. Like so many other syndicated kid-lit characters, Lucy Cousin's Maisy Mouse has turned into an industry, with a fully registered Lucy Cousins typeface and illustrations done "in the style of Lucy Cousins by King Rollo Films, Ltd." While the early books had some real charm, efforts like this one are barely "cute" and fairly pedestrian. This particular tale is meant to turn little ones onto the importance of dental health. So when Maisy's friend Charley the alligator has a wobbly tooth, she accompanies him on a visit to Dr Biteright, an Ostrich dentist. The signature illustrations and simple text provide preschoolers with an introduction to dental equipment and routines and give simple instruction about proper brushing. At least the information in this book is straightforward and accurate. Undoubtedly there are little ones around the world being more careful to go up and down, front and back just because Maisy's friend told them that's the way to do it.
Kirkus Reviews
Maisy and her entourage soothe a friend's anxieties about the dentist's office. Charley's loose tooth heralds a major milestone: his first visit to the dentist. However, he does not need to face this momentous-and a little worrisome-occasion alone; his friends accompany him on his visit in a show of support and solidarity. With the guidance of helpful Dr. Biteright and Nurse Sparkle, Maisy and the gang learn all about what happens at the dentist's office. From fun rides in the dentist's chair to X-rays and proper brushing technique, every aspect of a routine visit is covered in comforting detail. With her gentle approach to story telling, Cousins's simple text explains away readers' worries in a friendly, accessible format, and her trademark bright colors and familiar characters will reassure young readers. When Charley's tooth eventually falls out, he's calm-and excited about the prospect of a visit from the tooth fairy. A cheerful introduction to dentistry that's the perfect prescription for worried tots. (Picture book. 2-5)
