Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Robert Perret
Tallulah the duck is having a sleepover and Maisy the mouse is invited! Maisy has never been to a sleepover before but her mother helps her pack the right things, like a toothbrush and clean clothes. When she gets to the sleepover, Maisy makes a new friend, dances to music, eats ice cream and stays up late talking! The vibrant, chunky art will charm kids and parents alike and the approachable, no-nonsense description of a child's sleepover will help allay any anxieties children may have about being away from home for a night. The book actually lists the things Maisy packs, meaning a child could theoretically pack right along with her. Maisy and her friends also read themselves bedtime stories, opening the door to this very book about sleepovers being read at a sleepover! The book does not cover everything, for example, how to react to rules that may be different at someone else's house, how to cope with strange siblings, or what to do if the new kid isn't really nice, but it also doesn't raise any unnecessary concerns. It is easy to recommend this colorful book to emergent readers and their parents, especially if they are fans of Maisy's many other adventures. Reviewer: Robert Perret
