It’s carnival time for Maisy and her friends! Join the group for rides and games in a novelty adventure boasting a spinning pop-up Ferris wheel.

Come one, come all, and take in the bright colors and excitement of a day at the fair with Maisy and her pals. Just pull a tab or spin a wheel to make the bumper cars bump (bash! crash! ), see the friends having fun on the bouncy castle (up! down! ), or set the roller coaster in motion (screeeeaaammm! ). But nothing compares to the giant, interactive 3D Ferris wheel just waiting to spring to life on the final spread!

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Maisy and her friends—including Charley the crocodile, Eddie the elephant, and Tallulah the chick—enjoy a day at the fair, going on rides and playing games together. Via tabs, readers can help the animals gently collide in bumper cars (“Whee! Thump! Bump!”), bounce in a “bouncy castle,” swing wildly on a swing ride, travel down a slide, and follow the ups and downs of a roller coaster. The final spread features a rotating pop-up Ferris wheel (“Phew! Wow! Whoopee!”). Cousins offers high-energy descriptions of each activity: “Swing that hammer, Eddie. Ring-a-ding the bell! Watch the giant swings go up high, then down low.” The bright colors, familiar characters, onomatopoeic prose, and satisfying interactive effects provide an exuberant peek into both the sights and the sounds of the fair. Ages 2–5. (June)

Maisy and her friends love the bright lights, the noise, and the excitement of the fair. First, they ride in the bumper cars. Whee! Thump! Bump! Next they bounce up, down, and every which way in the bouncy castle. Maisy goes up high and down low in the giant swing before they all go down the giant slide. Eddie exhibits his strength as he swings the hammer to ring the bell and Charley throws a ball to knock a coconut off its peg. They scream together as the roller coaster races down and round. Each of the pages has several pull tabs to create motion as the friends enjoy the various activities. The last scene features a pop-up Ferris wheel with pull-out page extensions on both sides to show a panoramic view of the fairgrounds. Maisy’s fans will enjoy visiting the familiar animal characters with an opportunity to interact in their adventures. Reviewer: Phyllis Kennemer, Ph.D.; Ages 2 to 6.

Maisy and friends visit an amusement park, but the experience is about as exciting as watching a dropped Creamsicle melt. The breathlessly hyperbolic text--"Phew! Wow! Whoopee! Treats! Surprises! Prizes! Rides! Look here, there, and everywhere!"--is perhaps a clue that this trip needs some help. Neither it nor the incandescent colors and heavy black lines of Cousins' art serve to rev up the seven underperforming movable rides and other attractions. The visit begins with bumper cars in which a pull tab moves only two of the visible cars (approximately 1 inch each, at that) and ends with an unconvincing pop-up Ferris wheel. This latter has seats that not only have to be loosened by hand, but in motion, often turn to show blank backs. Alas, the outing's other special effects are likewise as lackadaisically designed as they are physically fragile. Even confirmed fans are unlikely to give this perfunctory outing more than a quick spin. (Pop-up/picture book. 4-6)
