Publishers Weekly
And finally, with the help of the giant oversize interactive board book Maisy's First Game Book by Lucy Cousins, and Maisy's pals (which double as game pieces), readers learn how to play Tic Tac Toe, use a spinner (numbered from 1-4) and play a version of Chutes and Ladders at "Maisy's Picnic." Kids will have so much fun they'll hardly notice that they're learning to count, identify colors and more. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Maisy, the pink-whiskered British mouse, is back again. This time she and her croc, squirrel, and chick friends come bearing the gift of board games for the very young. The sturdy board book opens to three-page spreads, which include three big, basic starter games, and the spinner and game-piece page. "Maisy's Picnic," "Maisy's Treasure Hunt," and "Maisy's Grand Prix" are easy enough to understand and play for any post-toddler to get into the gaming spirit. The rules are simple, and make the idea of learning the concept of rules comfortable. The occasional word instructions ("Uh-oh! Turn the wheel") will soon be memorized. A fourth game, "Maisy's Tic-Tac-Toe," decorates the obverse of the spinner page. Adding to the fun is an 'option' volvelle for the racing game. The spinner is well constructed, non-sticking, and nearly unbreakable, which is another plus. Cousins's bright, cheerful illustrations and design effectively pull the package together, making this a good buy. 2006, Candlewick, Ages 3 up.
