Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kristin Harris
Placemat-size illustrations of Maisy and her friends provide prompts for young artists to add their own touch to the artwork. Cousin’s style is recognizable with its loose, casual approach and Maisy’s many fans will not be disappointed. Maisy is featured in some of the placemats but not all. Most have a food related theme like the four pieces of toast with instructions to spread jam, butter, and marmalade on them or images of canisters for beans, rice, or spaghetti. A pizza needs toppings and to be divided into slices. Maisy also gets out in the garden. She is digging potatoes but they need to be drawn first. She is growing lettuce, tomatoes, beans, and pumpkins. Her friends are on the placemats too. Eddie needs help picking pears from a tree. Panda makes a big mess on his face with tomato soup. Charley finds spaghetti difficult to eat. There are over fifty illustrations that offer drawing opportunities for kids three and over. The peel-off sheets are a great resource to keep kids entertained while meals are being made or out at a restaurant. The color palette is simple and bright with only two or three colors per page. Reviewer: Kristin Harris; Ages 3 to 6.
