Overview

Ready to put on a show? An amazing 3-D stage scene is the crowning touch in this interactive showcase of Maisy and friends—and their surprising talents.

Tonight Maisy is putting on a talent show with her friends, and she is very excited! Pull the tabs to see them all at practice: Maisy tap-dancing across the floor, Eddie juggling a ball, Charley flipping completely around in a cartwheel. Of course, Tallulah wants to demonstrate some ballet twirls, and Cyril is working on his disappearing act. Now it’s time to pull open the curtains — and cheer as all five friends pop up in a show-stopping 3-D finale!

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Eleanor Heldrich
Maisy, a very popular white mouse, and her creator, Lucy Cousins, can always be depended upon to provide quality in children's books, but in this book they hit the ball right out of the park! All of Maisy's favorite animal characters are here. The colors are bold, the theme is upbeat and the illustrations make you smile. So what makes this one different? "There's going to be a show, everyone is excited. There will be music, magic tricks, and dancing." Maisy is getting a special costume for her tap dance. Eddy Elephant will do tricks with his ball. Charley the alligator, Peacock and the penguins will participate, but first they have to practice. Pull the tabs to make some of the animals practice while others make costumes and paint the scenery. On the last page, there is a happy surprise! There are two tabs to pull, one on each side of a red-and-white striped curtain, and a stage rises that allows the reader peek inside to see the finale. This is glee in a book. Reviewer: Eleanor Heldrich
Kirkus Reviews
"Tonight Maisy is putting on a show with her friends. She is very excited." Her legions of fans will be, too. The clear, declarative and enthusiastically ingenuous text follows the troupe of animals through rehearsal, costuming and set decoration, simple movable elements providing just the right amount of jazz. Maisy tap-dances, Charley the croc does a cartwheel ("Ready, set, flip!"), Tallulah, quite fabulously, pirouettes around a mirror. The final big reveal is just that: Readers pull aside a curtain to reveal a pop-out tableau of all the characters in foil-accented costume onstage and ready to perform. Big and simple enough to dazzle a group of toddlers, it will also work well in a lap and should hold up to enough repeated readings to satisfy most little ones until they are ready to move on. (Pop-up. 2-4)
