    Major in Success

I am a high school student at Lake Orion Hight School. I had to read this book for my english class. I liked the book and it had a lot of information that would be helpful to me in order to get a good start on the next phase of my life. The real life examples were a good learning tool as I could relate to the situations. On the down side, I felt that the book was very repetitious. Many of the concepts were repeated so many times that the reading became boring. The book in general, however was very informative and has many useful tools to achieve success.

    Another Review

As a senior in high school, I have to start thinking about my future and what I want to do. I have to think about what I want to do in college and what kind of job I want to have. How do I want to become successful in my life? This book helps you along the way, showing you how to use your time wisely, and how that the simplest things can benefit you in a big way. Major in Success clears up a lot of gray area that you have had about college whether, it is what major you want to go into or what college. Also in major in success, it shows you examples of the topic that they are discussing. Say if the topic was keep trying no matter what, there would be a real life testimony of some one that failed the first time but prevailed the second (i.e. Michael Jordan). This book really focuses on how to become successful and be successful at something you love to do. It also gives some inspirational quotes that are cool, some kind of corny. As I reader I found some negative things about the book. After reading there were a lot of related or repeated information that I found in the book. For many people, including myself, may become board with the book. Also, the author used way to many testimonies. Overall, I was very pleased with the book and thought that the book was beneficial to me. I believe that it help me get a better insight on what I wanted to do in college and gave me a better out look on college. I highly recommend this book to older teen approaching the college process. I believe that this book can be useful in the process.

    major in success

I think that major in success was an alright book, it had a lot of interesting things to read. When I first started reading the book I thought that it wouldn¿t be that bad. After a few days I began to not care for it as much and found it hard to stay focused on reading. There was a lot of good information for kids that are getting ready to graduate and go onto college. I thought it should have been more focused on anybody who would like to go to college. I also thought that there should have been a chapter that focused on what to do if you have already graduated from high school. Back then you decided not to further you education and now you would like to and how to go about that. As the book keep going on I just couldn¿t keep that focused. I have to say that there were some chapters that helped me but there were also chapters that I just wanted to skip right over. Some things were said over and over thought the chapters and I got tired of reading it. I think that is really good in the thought process that went into this book. It is kind of nice knowing that someone actually took the time to write about what we should do when we get out of high school or when we start college. For me it was good hearing some of things that the book said like no matter what you want to do there will always be a job for you. Also I liked when it said make sure that you have a job that is going to make you happy. I think over all that it was a good book for us to read a senior about to graduate in a few months. I know that I would not have read this book on my own and I found some information useful.

    Student Reviewer

As a senior at Lake Orion High School, I was required to read the book, Major in Success. When starting out with this book, I was immediately captivated by its inpirational nature. I was expecting it to be more of a guide to making it in the 'real world', but it was more like a guide to finding what you are truly passionate about and motivating you to pursue that passion in your career. I loved the quotes because famous people, such as the ones being quoted in the book, were all high school students just like me, confused about what road they should take that will lead them to the best future possible. As a senior, I feel extremely pressured to know NOW what college I want to go to, to know NOW what I want to be when I graduate, to plan for my future NOW. But the thing is, I am a very indecisive person and have no idea what I want to do for the rest of my life. This book moved me because it proved that it is okay to not be positive yet, because you will find yourself sometime. The best message that I received from this book was that if you have passion for something, pursue it, and the money will come to you. This is very affective to me because I have a strong passion for writing music and the words in this book pushed me to pursue my dreams of being a musician. The way that the book was set up (the quotes, comics, order of chapters, etc.) was very well put together. All in all, I would recommend this book to other high school students.

    Student Review

This book Major in Success is full of lots of information and lots of facts. Some of the information in this book is useful, but a lot of it seemed to be overwhelming. It was interesting at first but as I continued to read I found that much of the information was repeated and was just the same information written over and over. I didn¿t really like this book, because it wasn¿t a book that I found interesting to read. It was pretty boring and something that I would only read if I had to, which I did for one of my classes. There are a couple of comic strips to read every now and then and those did help me get through the book. When I would come across a comic strip it would be a break because the whole book is mostly all just words. One thing I did find interesting about this book is the fact of how many people get a job and don¿t like it. The book encourages you to select a job that you really enjoy and think you will be happy with for the rest of your life, as opposed to selecting a job just based on the salary of it. What contradicted that in the book though it said that most people change their career after ten years, even those who were happy with it, so with that said it kind of confused me as to what the author was really trying to get across. I would recommend this book to someone who likes to read factual information and doesn¿t have a clue where to start with picking a career. Overall this book wasn¿t horrible it just wasn¿t something I enjoyed I am sure there were some students in my class who feel the exact opposite as me. The only way to tell if you will like a book is to read it.

My Thoughts on Major In Success

Major in success was a really informational book that answered a lot of questions that I had about my future. Although it answered a lot of my questions I found it really hard to understand and read. I had a hard time reading it because it really didn¿t interest me enough to keep on reading and want to know more. I guess it could be me but a lot of the book bored me, and was difficult to grasp. Some of the aspects of the book were difficult for me to really understand how to approach. Even though there were a couple of sections I found on the boring side and hard to understand I still got the main idea of the book. Before reading the book I had a lot of questions about my future. Most of my questions are centered on college and the career that I would like to pursue. In those areas I found a lot of answers from Major in Success and it really gave me a lot of ideas. Ideas for what my future could be like and what I was going to do with my time. I really enjoyed the layout of the book and the way that everything was setup throughout. The comics included in the book really my interest I liked taking a break from the reading and being able to read one of the comics on the page. All the charts included really was interesting to because you could get a better understanding for a career and what they are paid from looking at that. The layout really made the book more interesting for me because I could get a better understanding just by the way everything was setup. The author Patrick Combs did a fantastic job on his book Major in Success, although there were a couple things I disliked it was a really good book. I hope that he continues to write books like this so that people and students all over the world can read and be able to understand the major keys to success.

    Very helpful

Major in Success was an excellent book covering most of the things a high school student would need to know after high school. This book wasn¿t just targeted towards high school students it could also be targeted towards young adults as well. Major in Success was a very well thought out book, and I personally thought the author, Patrick Combs did a real good job with writing out the book. There was a lot of information in the book, and he did an excellent job with separating the important parts of the book. I¿m not the best reader in the world, but when I read Major in Success it real had a strong impact on me. When I read most books if it doesn¿t interest me I will set it down and do something else. But this book was different, I felt like everything I read was extremely important in my life. I think every high school student should read this book before they go to college because the whole chapter on credit cards was very interesting, and I feel like it will benefit a lot of students in their future life. Something that I thought was very unique about Major in Success is the short chapters. The chapters were about two to five pages long, and this real helped me get through the book at an easier pace. The book was also very interesting because the author would tell you a certain problem, and then he would explain that problem that happened to someone in real life. It made the book way more interesting to hear about someone¿s personal problem, rather then just to listen to a lecture by the author. Major in Success is an excellent book and I would definitely recommend this book to all high school student, and students that are just going into college. It¿s a very helpful book and I will take a lot of useful knowledge with me when I go away to college

The Downfalls of Major in Success

This was not one of the best books I have read. A lot of the things that were mentioned made no sense. The author tried to tell the reader that they should find a job that they love and then they will never want to switch. Later in the book it talked about how you will most likely switch your career after about ten years into something that you will find you like better. I found no point in reading this book. I already know what I want to do with my future, and it had nothing to do with going into a business. This entire book talked about was sitting in an office, starting your own thing, going into journalism. It had nothing to do with the medical field, which has a very high outlook. It could¿ve had one chapter or two about the medical field, and all of the things that deals with it. Patrick Combs did not do a good job when explaining college. He said that college was just a place where you find something to do with your life and it does not matter what classes you take. I disagree with this statement. Why should we pay all of our money to the college if it will not help us in the future? It does not make sense. He also said that there are classes that everyone should take in order to succeed in life. I do not believe that you need to take a writing or business class to be in the medical field. He did not think of all the careers that would make that statement false. The author was very bad at explaining everything about what college is really about. Overall, this book did not interest me or help me for my future. It had nothing to do with my career or helping me to decide what is best for me. I already have my mind made up about my future, and this book did not help me in making my decision.

high recommended for high school/college students

Major in Success, by Patrick Combs was a book that I had to read in my technical reading and writing class and at first I didn¿t know why I was reading it. I didn¿t think that it would apply to me at all but then once I started to get further into the book i noticed that it started talking about ways to be effective and use the most of your time in college. How to figure out what you really want to do in life, and it may sound cliché, but it helped me a lot in deciding what I want to do in life. Or it gave me a good idea of what I wanted to do in life. This book covered ways to go into college and get the most out of it. It gave you step by step ways to get your foot in the door at the company or organization you in turn want to be apart of in the future. Through interviewing, getting practical hands on training and ways to get active within your college or university that will help you with leadership and communication skills. This book opened up my eyes to all the possibilities that are at the tip of my finger all I have to do it just reach for them. Major in Success provided philosophies as to what is most important in an individual¿s character to be successful in life and with their career. These philosophies helped me interpret what I still need to incorporate in my life in order to be successful and they helped me realize my weaknesses and what I still need to work on in order to be successful. I would recommend this book to anyone who is struggling with the decisions as to what they want to be in life, what career they want to have and how they will get there. Major in Success was a fantastic book that opened my eyes up to so many possibilities that have always been there, I just never took the time to notice them. With a year left of high school before I go off to college I¿m glad I had the opportunity to read this. I think it will create a huge difference in the outcome of how I look at colleges and how many experiences I will take that will help me with my career in the future.

    Major in Success

The book Major in Success is jam packed with helpful information for those who are just entering college, or those who are already in college. I read this book as a high school senior and I would strongly recommend it to anyone who is soon going to be in college or currently attending college. It helped me think a lot more about what career I should be going into, what career would make me happiest, and what my dream job is. The book talks a lot about the topic of finding your dream job. It provides the reader with a lot of examples of individuals who have achieved their dream jobs and couldn¿t be happier. You could say this book was written to help you find a job that you will always love doing. The author of Major in Success is great at giving helpful advice while explaining everything you need to know about achieving personal success in the job world. The book provides many helpful tips on each page that you can take with you to use for the rest of your life. I guarantee that this book will help you out if you are unsure of what career you are looking for. It will help you go through the thinking process of finding the career that best fits you, and finding a career that you love doing maybe even your dream job. I am very glad that I read this book. If I had not read it, I would still be just as confused as I was before. I know that this book has helped me a lot and I promise that it will help you in some way as well. It is defiantly worth reading and I think that everyone who is going to college should plan on reading it.

    Thoughts on Major in Success

Major in Success is a book that was written to inspire individuals to be successful, which I believe it does. The book has a variety of information that will be beneficial to every person¿s future. It explains that it is okay if you do not yet know what you want to pursue in life. It also mentions the fact that you should do something that you enjoy instead of doing it for the money. Reading this information makes me think about my future and my goals and I believe that reading this book was very helpful. This book is full of information that will help me in college and the workplace. I feel that I can take this information and apply it to my life. Although the book is very helpful, I feel that there are a few things that could be different. I think that the book talks too much about other people¿s lives. It does help to learn about other people¿s success stories, but I think that these stories are mentioned too much. It seems like every other thing you read is based on these people and I think that it is a little too much. Another thing that could improve is making the book more interesting. The book has information that will help, but it is boring a lot of the time. I think that the author should talk about more interesting things that will make the reader want to keep reading. By the end of the book, I was tired of reading it and I felt like I was reading the same information over and over again. Overall, I think that Major in Success is a great book. I know that the information I read will help me later in life and I feel that it was worth while to read this book. The book could be better if a few things improved, but for the most part, Major in Success is a great read.

Major in Success: Make College Easier, Fire up Your Dreams, and Get a Very Cool Job

I feel that the book Major in success was a great piece of information. I think that many people could learn from this book, from students to adults in the work force. Too many people nowadays miss so many opportunities just because they miss a little needed guidance. Also, many students especially in high school do not know what they want to go into for a career. The possibilities are endless. Choosing the right career however is so important to your success as an individual. The advice in this book is put into clear context so anyone can understand it. It is a fast reader and people will find the facts easily presented. The book also has many examples with rich detail on how to apply it to your own life. Employers look for curtain key aspects in an individual. These aspects are what help and individual to truly succeed in a company. Information on everything from interviews to promotions is covered in this book. These days in America it is so easy to get lost in the crowd, but this book helps you find your way through all of it. There are just simply thousands of careers out there. Also, the authors Patrick combs and Jack Canfield write in a quite effective manner. Even though the examples are many times more related to one topic they are very educational. People nowadays could learn a lot through the tactics stated in this book also. The authors go over things from planning to preparing. People should always keep their options open and look for opportunities. I know that this book has helped me greatly and I am sure it will help you also. Self-help books are full of knowledge. This book is a mentor for success. There is nothing better then having a teacher there to guide you along the path of life. This book does that exactly for you. Roads maps are not only helpful on the road, but in the work place.

    Major In Success

As a high school senior, future is a word that is shoved at you every moment of your life. People continuously ask you what you are going to do in your future and how you are going to pay for your future. It all seems to come too fast. You just want to enjoy your senior year but at the same time you have to figure out what you are going to do for the rest of your life. In my Technical Reading and Writing class we read Major In Success. This book is amazing! It takes the fear of the future away and makes it easier to find something you will love. At first it feels like it will be impossible to find a career that fits your style and way of life. It seems as if there is nothing that you can completely enjoy doing ¿forever.¿ Major In Success helps clear up these concerns. This book really focuses on how you can succeed as an individual. It presents major ideas and tips to help you find the right career. Major In Success is not and average advice book. This book takes many different approaches to get into teens heads and give them great examples of how they can achieve life goals. It uses humor to get through to those teens that think of it as ¿just another book we have to read in high school.¿ Major In Success also uses a variety of quotes from famous celebrities, political figures, and philosophers. These quotes talk about how these individuals became successful in their life. I know that this book will help me later in life. It is one of the greatest business books I have read. Now that I have read Major In Success I know what I want to do with my life and I know how to achieve the goals I have set for myself.

    Major In Success

In ¿Major in Success¿ I have been interested in the following two specifics one of them was when you had the table where the careers were listed and you could see what the average salary that a job would make. The second point that I thought was good was when someone was talking about how they have changed careers multiply times and they are finally happy. The advice that I have got from the person who talked about changing their career multiply times was very helpful to me. I can relate to them because I will more than likely change my career a couple of times. Like they said in the book you shouldn¿t just go to work for the money but to have fun and experience new things. The table of careers was nice to look at and see what every type of job makes and made me look at even more things that I didn¿t even know existed. It was helpful to know that there is something out there that can help me and others chose the best possible career. I have read ¿Major in Success¿ from front to back and believe that the book was very helpful in many ways. It has helped me in high school a lot with all the choices that we are pressured to make for our future. I loved the book but there were a few things that I though could have been done either differently or better. I didn¿t really like how there wasn¿t really any graphs in the text and how some of the information was harder to understand than some of it. Another thing was the book should space out more because I felt like it was all crammed into some many pages. If there were more graphs and tables in the text I would have caught my attention more and made it more valuable information. The book could have been spaced out in more pages and double spaced, because I thought there were too many words on a page. After all I really did like ¿Major in Success¿ I know it will help me in my future decisions about my careers. This has to be one of the best books that I have read that has actually made a difference in my life. Your book is one that I will recommend to others.

    Major and Success

I am writing about your Major in Success book. My name is AJ Wells I¿m from Lake Orion, Michigan. I read it in one of my classes and found it very intriguing. I have a few comments about the studies. They write about how college isn¿t necessarily the deciding factor in what you¿re going to do with your life. However making that decision in what to major in is one of the biggest in your life. They find a balance between making it seem like it¿s not the end of the world if you make the wrong one, but also it does need to be something you thought about a lot. I have a few ideas that would make this book more appealing to me and my peers. While reading the book, there where many things that stood out to me about your logic behind the appeal to us teenagers. There where two main things that jumped at me the most: ¿ They provided use with tons and tons of quotes. To me inspirational quotes from people who made it big have a very positive effect on my confidence. ¿ Also their order in which you had your chapters set up in, I could tell, had a lot of logic behind them. Using what you taught use earlier in the book can help us understand concepts later. As a teenager I feel I am qualified to review this book, as it is designed towards me and the way I think. Therefore I have a few suggestions I would like to share with you to maybe appeal even more to the audience, being me. ¿ Although the chapters are laid out very precisely. I feel that a lot of them just repeat what¿s already been said in previous ways. Some of the information could be combined to make the book seem less repetitive. ¿ Also they have plenty of stories from famous people about how they became successful and how successful they really are. I really believe that if they where contacted, would be more than happy to inform us young people, with strategies and pointers to help use stay motivated. These suggestions could have a very uplifting outcome on a lot of people. Over all I really enjoyed reading the book. It gave me a much better picture about what I need to be concentrating on first. If they could take my suggestions into consideration it would be greatly appreciated. I truly believe that they could make the book much more pleasing to your audience. I know the book has been redone several times and each time being more successful. So I look forward to seeing some more of this style of writing coming out.

Best Book I Have Ever Read

I really enjoyed Major in Success. There were several parts of the book that I found to be done very well. One of my favorite parts was the implications of the cartoon strips. The comics were placed under sections where they made cense. After reading a section I would read the comics and I feel the section made them much more amusing simply because I understood the message behind them. I think the adding of comics was geniuses on the author¿s part. The set up ensured that the book would never become dull or boring simply because the comics made the book fun. Another part of the book that I liked was the implication of quotes from actors, comics, athletes, and philosophers. The quotes provided the book with the human element of what the real world is like. Each quote in some way explained how each celebrity had become successful, gave advice from a personal experience, or shared his or her goals that got them to were they are today. I found these quotes to be very inspiring and helpful. I also liked how the author had put the quotes in where they would most relate to the section in the book. After reading through a section I would go back and read through the different quotes or tips, and would feel that I had understood them more after reading the section. I believe that it is the combination of the section, quotes, tips and comics is what made your book so exciting. The book was good over all however there was one thing I would have changed about it. The table of contents was the one and only thing that really bugged me, and that the subjects were not in alphabetical order. When I wanted to go back and reflect on a particular section I would have to sift through the table of contents for some time before I could find what I was looking for. Also, I believe that the table of contents should be spread out a little more because in addition to the alphabetization of the table of contents. I think it would be easier to read if you had double spaced between lines. This would not only make the page easier to read but also make it easier to find a particular section. Over all Major in Success was a very good book and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in planning for their future.

    Could be helpful.

To start out, this book did have some helpful information in it, but it may not be helpful to everybody. The aspect of the book that I personally found the most helpful were tips on how to make more out of your college experience. Get involved, do internships. If you are planning on heading out to college, you should consider reading this. Other than that, most of the information in the book seemed recycled and almost like it was common sense. Pretty much everybody knows that you should do what you enjoy the most a book won¿t really reaffirm that idea. It is easy to filter out the information that you don¿t find helpful, which will be different for everybody because people of many varying ages can read this book. There is information about just entering college, what to do during college, graduating, and how to start your career afterwards. If you are having trouble finding motivation or just want general advice in any of these areas, I would recommend picking up this book and at least scanning through it. You may find it helpful, as I did in some parts, or you may not. It all depends on your situation and what path you are going to take. One thing that bugged me about this book though was that there were a lot of plugs/promotions for other books. This type of advertising bothered me and made some of the advice seem a little less personal. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that a lot of the advice given seemed like it was contradictory. The author would tell you one thing but then later in the book contradict it by advising you to do something else. It just felt like the information could really mislead people. Be careful about what you take away from this book. Check it out, but don¿t take the advice to heart.

    Need Guidance

I thought that Major in Success was a great book for students just getting out of high school and even better for students close to graduating college. The book offers a ton of information that will help you find your way in life and help you find a career that you will enjoy. The author Patrick Combs wants you the reader to be successful, which is why he offers so much information on ways to become successful. His information is useful because Patrick Combs is a very successful man himself. The book talks about everything you need to know to be able to obtain your dream job. He offers great information on how to prepare yourself to get ready for an interview and many detailed things that you need to do, to put yourself ahead of everyone else. In order to be successful you really need to do what you enjoy and he stresses that point a lot in his book. Success does not just come, you have to work for it and time management is a huge part of that. You will have to be able to manage your time well in order to fit the necessary things into your everyday schedule. In the book you get to read first hand experiences of people that have been in the certain situation he is talking about, so you can better understand where the author is coming from and the points he is trying to make. The book offers a ton of different quotes from many different famous and successful people because what better information can you get then somebody that has already been through it all. I really liked how detailed the book was and how well it explains the steps that you need to take to become a successful person or at least set yourself up to become a successful person.
